I propose this: Lets stop making proposals for rule changes for 1 year. This will put a large number of games under everyones belts, and then lend more weight to the polls and the problems found if any.

Note: Playing person to person vs. PBM is quite different. Why?, because many of the rules IMO are designed to help the game move in a timely manner. The is a great advantage for face to face players, but has no effect on PBM gamers. Something I think many here on this site do not take into consideration.

Cheers!

While I agree in principle with your proposal I must confess that I believe it is our nature to want to perfect (tweak, change, complain about, whine about, talk about, obsess over)this game we love.

I see nothing wrong with coming up with new ways to play the game, it's not like we're forced to use every proposed idea. I intend to use a number of the tweaks suggested here as optional rules, if everyone I'm playing with likes the idea then we'll use it. I always liked a game with lots of options.

Okay it's clear to me that it's not about the rules being broken or anything, it's just many here like to tinker with the rules for the sake of tinkering with them. Have fun!

But if any are really serious about changes, then doing it so soon after the release of the game will not lend any weight the your arguement, if anything it will detract from it. If I were a designer of a game, I wouldn't be listening to these polls. Now after a year or so if a pattern is forming, I would take notice.

As I stated before face to face gameplay is very different that PBM, and many issues about certain rules may be a decision by the designers to keep the face to face games lively, and in a shorter duration.

Please don't take anything I say as a attack on your ideas, your free to express them. I quess I'm a pragmatic at heart. Have fun with your ideas, but I'll wait for awhile before I add my say to anymore of them.

Game on!

I think I have to agree with Reyoso. Enhancing the game with your (or others) ideas is part of what A&A has always been. There are websites, magazine articles, etc all with enhanced, modified, or changed rules. If one player likes the rules the way they are fine, but if others want to change them fine again. The game is fun either way and the ultimate goal is to have fun, so I Vote for keep the discussions open.

I have always been in favour of keeping the basic rules as they are (so basic in fact that they've been designed so toddlers can play AAR).

What I want is an advanced rules edition, designed for experienced players, who can grasp such difficult concepts as fighter intercepts in SBR (and Larry Harris sounded interested in my suggestion).
