Looks like we have 4 in Toledo and 1 willing to drive from St. Clair. I will actually drive from Michigan too. 4 houses over the border.

How do we get together?

Time? Place?

Any ideas? Muddog and I play at least once a week and need some different players for ideas /strategies.

Muddog

We could play at Glass City games.

I will come down from the north side of Detroit (actually Saint Clair). Also, check out the 2004 A&A Spring Gathering info.

I'm up for some A&A in Toledo. I currently play with a group of 4-5 other guys at least once a week. We are always looking for some new people. We play all kinds of A&A variants, but of course A&A revised is the current 'hot' game thats getting played.

If i would play i'm not very sure if I would be really good, for me and my friends have come up with a way to play with no onshore/offshore rules, much more fun!

Battleaxe3, Don't count yourself out just yet. Muddog and I have only played each other, so I'm not so sure we would be so great either. We've come to almost know what the other may do. How about a game next week at Glass city games? I believe it's on Dorr street. What day would be best for anyone who wanted tom Play??

I am interested in playing also. I am living in Ft. Wayne IN right now. I have Friday and Saturdays off. I am a new to the game, but I would love to play with some new people. I dont have a "group". My dad had a group back in the day, but they dont have the time or live to far apart to play anymore. :(

1) What is Glass City Games policy on gaming at their store?

2) What are their hours of operation?

3) Would someone down there take the time to contact them as to this kind of info?

How would Saturday, 04/10/04, work for people? I am not religious so the fact that it is Easter weekend doesn't matter to me (Now it might matter to my Catholic wife, but I think I can work around that).

Hey desktop, if you think you suck so bad we can always have a sucking competition and see who's the real champion of suck!....god, that sounds terrible....I'm so embarrassed...

and craig, it's a little-known trick of the Catholic faith that if you eat at least one cadbury egg or marshmallow pip in the name of Jesus Christ, then that counts as church for Easter.

As for figuring out what will work at glass city, does anyone on here know the operators or even frequent the store? I haven't been there since before they moved locations....don't even know if it's still run by the same folks.

Glass city games owner has plyed A&A with Muddog and I many times. he has encouraged us to show when we wnat to play. they have tables, snacks, Restrooms, etc. Playing there is never a problem. As matter of fact the owner has 1 of each of the seris sets available for play at the store.

So how does this sound:

1) Muddog and I will be there Thursday april 8th @ 6:00 p.m. Anyone else who wishes to join us may. (all ability levels welcome) I believe the store closes at 11:00. I will check.

2) Saturday April 10th is also great for me. I don't think the store opens until Noon-1:00?? If I see a post here for people interested I wiill show up. How does 2:00??? sound? I will also call Glass city today to make sure this is acceptable.

I'm ready for battle!!!!!

Update:

Just got off the phone with Glass City Games. They would be glad to have us in the store. Thursdays are Warhammer night and its very loud. So I and Muddog will be there Wednesday April 7 @ 6:00 p.m. if anyone wants to show and play.

Staurday April 10th @ 1:00 is also set. the store opens at 12:00. Again everyone is welcome.

DesktopGeneral, the 24th is also fine with me, what time works for you?? And anyone else is also welcome.

Minus1- It is not a matter of going to church- I DO NOT GO!- it is a matter of other associated family obligations/parties. I just did not want to try to plan something and then find out we are going to relative X's house for Y occasion.

I only put out the Saturday time frame because I would be coming from the north side of Detroit. This also is one of the few weekends that my Friday night group is not meeting.

Jayhurst- We are playing Xeno's Europe at War/Russia at War right now. We have made some serious modification and clarifications to the rules. I still think it is a great game. Very balanced.

I will plan on coming down to game on Saturday, 04/10/04, at 1 pm.

DesktopGeneral,

Not sure if you know this but two of the best AA players in the mid-west live in Indiana. One in Indy and the other in Ft. Wayne. They were runners up last year at GEN CON's Masters Tourney, second to Carico67 and the year before walked away with the Championship. You can check out my web site for their names...

As for the rest of the crew in Ohio, take C.Yope's advice; take a road trip to Cincy on April 17. About 3:45 min away. I used to run to Toledo a lot and it is a quick drive down I75...for more info. on the Spring Gathering go to:

DTG- I was born in Ft. Wayne and grew up in Coldwater, MI. When I was a kid, my family used to go to Ft. Wayne to stock up food and cheap alcohol/beer (less taxes and no bottle return).

Guys- Listen to Greg Smorey. Go to Cincinnati for the A&A Spring Gathering. I will bring info and give you the lowdown when I come down on Saturday to Glass City. I need the practice before I run into the heavyweights down in Cincy.

CraigCool. I'll play any A&A variant. I like them all. Especially if the home rules smooth out the game even more. How's Sundays for you? (not this next one due to Easter of course...)

That's because what else is there to do in Toledo besides play board games? lol

Wednesdays normally would work great for me, but the 7th is out unfortunatly. My BEST days are Sundays anytime and Monday after 5:30pm. Saturdays will work occasionally, but no saturdays for the rest of April. Unless it rains. If it rains, we don't race and I am free.

Glass City seems to be a good idea for a place to play at. What are their hours? Are they open on Sundays?

Greetings Everyone,
Frog - thanks for getting this started.
Is there room for one more this Saturday? I'd love to meet some new "gaming" folks. I'd be launching my invasion from Ypsilanti MI {about an hours drive to Toledo}.
Question?...should I bring anything? Like say an extra game? Probably a good idea. I could also supply units from "Pacific" or "Europe" if need be or desired.

P.S. Am I the "old man" in this gathering? "The Cav." was born in 1960.

Anyone-and-Everyone is Welcome!!

I don't have a plan, I was thinking we would decide what people want when we see how many people/and games show up. If there aren' t enough games we'll make teams, If people don't want teams we won't make them.

If we want to go random on countries we will, if players agree on who to be, great.

For our first time I thought we would play it be ear.

An extra set would be wise to bring.

Jayhurst- I am lucky that I am coming down this Saturday. It will probably be 115 miles for me to get there. I usually game in Sterling Heights, MI, on Friday nights. That works out because I meet up with the wife at the in-laws and hand over the kids. Since I am not doing the Friday night thing this week, then I can make a Saturday work. Even that, though, is tougher than the Friday night gig because it is most of a day that I am gone from the house and all the things that I could be doing instead of a late night that does not matter as much from the "working on the homestead" point-of-view. I might be able to do Sundays if you lived around the corner, but not Toledo. Would love a chance to talk with you about all the variants anyway.

Today wed april 7 @ 6:00 glass city Games.

Saturday April 10 @ 1:00 Glass City Games

Saturday the 17th everyone at Cincy.

Saturday the 24th, 3:00 @ Glass city.

If things go well we can plan a monthly game?? Think about what days/times work best for people and well try to make a regular schedule.

We might even plan a tournament?? Glass city said they would be interested in hosting just such an event!

Frog,

Not sure what you have in mind, but Origins(Columbus Ohio, June 24-27) has numerous AA tournaments that have great competition and are always a ton of fun. Origins is an AA warm-up, so to speak, for GEN CON Indy. GCI is where the AA Championships are held every year. Well at least for the last 11 years...

As for the event in Cincy on April 17; this is not a tournament but a gathering of avid AA players that may only get together once, or maybe twice a year at Origins or GEN CON and play AA all day. Many really cool door prizes are given away during the day such as AA games, trophies and other cool AA stuff...

So spread the word and if any AA tournaments would transpire, let me know. I would be very interested.

Thanks,
Gregory J. Smorey

GSmorey63 thanks for the info.

a friend and I went to Origins last year, learned alot. never knew about the bid system so we started at a disadvantage. Muddog and I already have plans for Origins this year and i'm trying to convince him to go to GenCon too.

I'm thinking more of an informal tournament for many of us to get practice and to have fun. where a winner in one game plays another winner the next week and so forth.

smo63
04-08-2004, 04:21 AM
Frog,

That is the way the tournaments at both Origins and GEN CON are run, as you probably already know, being at Origins last year. They are all single elimination TEAM tournaments where everyone pairs off in brackets and the winners continue to play each other...

I know some players always come to the tourneys wanting to play by themselves, but once you get into a tourney and continue to win, it to gets harder and harder, competition grows and the chance for errors mulitplies and without a partner, the odds are stacked against you.

Anyhow, thanks for the comment and hope to see you at Origins/GEN CON...

Peace,
Gregory J. Smorey

Frog sneaks out an Axis victory over Muddog.

I hope to see more than 2 on Saturday.

What did I tell ya!....SE Michigan/NW Ohio...Gaming Hotbed! We'll see you on the 10th.
