Aircraft Placement

During the aircraft placement phase, are you required to place your aircraft on the board or are you allowed to keep them off board untile you wish to place them. Example: You bring a Stuka and your oppenent brings two Bofors. Can you keep the Stuka off the board until your ground units have destroyed the enemy AA or are you committed to placing the plane only to have it shot down right off the bat? I would think that by not placing the plane , the AA has done its' job that round by keeping the enemy airsupport from being commited to battle. Any good commander would not send planes into a flak trap until the guns could be neutralized. Thanks for the help.

During the Flight Phase you can place your aircraft anywhere on the board. This means it is your option to place aircraft on the board, not that you must place aircraft.
