BMW vs. Archer defensive fire question

If the Germans have intiative and move a BMW into the same hex as an Archer in the movement phase, and the archer pulls out of that hex during the Allied turn of that same movement phase, during the BMX's defensive fire does it use it's close combat die roll of 8?

Yes, if it attacks the Archer in the same hex.
