Artillary question

I feel embarassed for asking this(I should know), in the instructions it says artillery does not support infantry on defense. so if I am attacked and I have 1 man and 1 artillery, do I not get to roll for the artillery?

WHILE attacking ONLY:...you match Infantry and artillery ONE for ONE!!! Meaning: If you have ( 4 ) Infantry and ( 2 ) artillery..... (2) infantries and (2) artilleries will need a 2 (or lower) to HIT...while the remaining (2) Infantry will need 1 on offense! If they were DEFENDING, then the units will defend seperately: a die roll 2 (or less) for Arts and 2 for Infantries.

[Note]: Every piece always defends/attacks with a die roll...except water units from Sub/ 'First-strike attacks' and Shore Bombardments -in that case: that piece WILL NOT have a counter attack die roll!

Thank You Holywolfman, here I am dishing out advice to some people and not remembering basic concepts of the game in the next sentence.
