Does everyone else agree that it would be silly to field a PAK 40 when you could field an Elite Panzer IV for only 4 more points. With crackshot, it's firepower is nearly identical. It can move and has "damage" instead of "death" on the second hit. Also, it's a 1939 unit.

Anyone use a PAK 40 anymore?

Extended range 12. Yep, I still use it. I bet Aries wishes he had one about now.

But the "perfect build" of Fave Dave, now Aries, didn't need one because it was the perfect tournament build... :D

If you squint they kind of look like Pak38's :p I personally would still use Pak40s vs PzIVD given the scenario. There are uses for both and I do not see either one obsoleting the other.

Now remember, I just took over leading the "Perfect Tournament Build". I never said it was perfect. :D

Pak 40, SNFL Cpt and Vigilant Lt, make it hard to take out, and if you know your opponent is going to go for an all allied tank... well the Pak is still good in my opinion

I can see your argument about using it less often in a tournament field, but in a larger point game, the Extended Range and upgraded capabilities via some of the commanders make it worth using.

Now I just wish the 3" Gun M5 didn't look so frickin' rediculous, 'cause then I'd use IT more often.

The extended range 10 is a bnonus for the Pak40. Both unit are good for me. The advantage you have with the Panzer 4 d is that it is 1939 vs 1942 of the Pak 40. But, I'm sure i will see the Panzer 4 d replacing the Pak 38.

I have never liked the PAK 40 anyways. The Eagles made them crud. I dont generally like artillery, they are hard to maneuver and easy to kill, and generally non versatile. The bofors though is a hot piece, that's a big difference.

Pak 40s are great. Just keep them in the hills or trees. They have ER. 12 and have a nice hv. att. value.

PAK 40s were never of any use in tournament builds. They are not flexible enough and move too slowly.

As you probably know, I consider the Elite Panzers to be pretty spiffy.

Hey now...I thought I did fairly well with PAK 40's in tourney builds. They do channel armor away from parts of the battlefield.

However, if I had 4 spare points...would I get a Elite PzIV or a PAK40 + a Blackshirt? It would depend on the rest of my army.

I actually used a PaK 40 last night. I even got off 5 shots with it before a Sturmovik got it.

I usually only use PAK 40's in a defensive scenario...

The PIVD definately is much more versatile in the fact that it can shoot at anything
Soldiers,Tanks and aircraft and also has a speed of 3, not 2 in your assault phase and has crack shot just for 4 more points, If I had a choice of a PIVD or PAK40 and blackshirt then the choice would be obvious, the PIVD and yes

FaveDave the PIVD is very Spiffy
