Best Defense vs. Heavy Bombers?

What has worked best for you? Im specutlating on a couple different ideas, but would like to get opinions from those who have been on the wrong end of HBs.

Well, depending on which countries are involved, you are pretty much screwed when the enemy gets 'em. My advice is A.Buy a few extra AA guns to make life as difficult as possible for them and B. Attack the territories containing these bombers as soon as possible to take advantage of their low defense value and kill them before they are launched at your ICs.

Other than that, the best defense is to play a "no-tech" game.

That was along the lines of my thinking, AA and hit'em where it hurts. Anyone else?

I ' lurk ' in the shadows and wait 'till they land together and attack them (unsuspectingly) even though it may cost a few lives (infantry, tank divisions)....it will be well worth it especially to see the look on the owner's face when they are defending thier bomber pieces with a "1"- :eek: ( ***-for-tat)

Make a House rule which allows the HBs to be crippling BUT not to allow them to remove a country from a game completely.

IE. here's a way to win with the allies:
round 1 USA spends 40IPCs for Heavy Bombers.
round 2 USA buys bombers
round2+ USA hits germany with bombers until allies win. Germany with zero IPCs to spend makes russia vs japan pretty easy.

This is my opinion of SBR: Strategic Bombing Raids...

an IC should only be able to sustain an amount of damage equal to its territory value.
PLUS the most damage able to be sustained in a whole ROUND for any IC should be its territory value.

NOT each bomber (as in the rules)
-if EACH bomber could hit up to a maximum of an IC territory value then how in the hell does this keep Heavy Bombers in check? the big killer with HBs is/was not the 3 attacking dice (2 are better) but the fact that they can make a country never have any IPCs to spend.

This also takes care of the Stratafortress problem associated WITH heavy bombers.
