For tournaments I've shaved my options down:

Axis: 21 different units

Allies: 27 different units

So far only three previewed units have made a difference in my decks.

I've added resourseful hero to the allies.
I've taken out the Messerschmitt and replaced it with the Focke-Wulf FW 190A. (Granted I probably won't ever use a plane in a tournament deck, I did leave that option open.)
I've added the Hetzer thanks to comments below.

Which other units do people feel deserve tournament respect?

The Hetzer. 10 points less than a Pz4, same ATstats, hard to spot. A very good tank destroyer.

I honestly think this set is going to have a lot of power pieces. I think this is when you are going to see the power creep and oddball abuse pieces that hit Sw minis hard at set 3. I am not whining, I just really think that objectively, and I think the FW is proof of that... it's the same points as the ME109, but just flat out better. The other pieces that were better (panzerschrek over panzerfaust) had some increase in cost.

I think there must be 2 design teams, and the "r2 with tow cable" team just got on AAM. I suspect the other heroes will be pretty darn strong too.

when the product demand (or quality) goes down they will make the performance/cost ratio for the units go up in order to get people to buy. It is the nature of collectible minis.

The Me109 was unplayably weak. And so is the Fw-190. So thats not power creep.
"Power-creep" occurs when a new unit is clearly better/cheaper than existing top of the curve units. e.g. if the DD sherman where identical to the m4a1 sherman but with "amphibious" added for no extra points cost, that would be power creep.
But making a plane more cost-effective than any of the 5 in set-III wouln't be power-creep. Because even the best of those is barely worth playing.

I looked at the Hetzer again and I think your right. I had originally passed on it because it wasn't good against infantry and had no turret. I figured I could get by with an Elite for 2 points less. But looking at the anti-vehicle stats again the Hetzer is significantly better against armor, has one more speed and one more front armor. The percents to disrupt an armor of 5 are virtually identical (which is why I scrapped it originally); however, against 6 def the Hetzer is 8% better at S and M range and against 7 def the Hetzer is about 15% better at S and M range. The Elite really doesn't have any business taking on a 7 armor; but it is possible for the Hetzer.

It's 6 points more than a Pak 40 but the difference in mobility and units that can damage it make the 6 points worth it.

Good call on the Hetzer.

I agree with what your saying XAos. The only other thing to mention is that the 109 was 1939 and the Fw is 1941. Until we got the Spitz the allies didn't have anything before 1944. I still don't see planes in tournament play, I think the threat of them eliminates some other vehicles though (ie comets and nashorns).

I dont know if i would go that far, but I do understand your point. If no one is going to play those pieces, might as well start making them playable. Like the ss panzer 4 being only 2 points more than the standard.

Anyways, it's just a prediction, and I will stand by it. I think this set will be similar to universe and set 3 in sw minis with lots of early pieces being just flat out replaced.
