Gosh, all this talk of aam going down the drain, really puts a tear in my eye. Personally I love the game. But the only other person that i know that plays is my cousin. Him and I, dont have any plans of quiting. I just hope that they make the game better with more realistic rules and better looking peices. I hope there is never an end to aam.:)

Dude, the complainers (and the apologists on the other side of the aisle) seriously account for just a fraction of the forum traffic. Don't let our high post counts fool you -- we spend most of our time on these boards enjoying the game, not *****ing (or apologizing) for it. Chin up! :)

I really wouldn't worry to much. If Set IV sells well enough, and I suspect it will, this game will be around awhile.

Well it can't be doing all that bad. I tried ordering another 6 boosters from the same place I do ( I won a scratch loto for 60 bones :D ) and they are sold out of the first wave. But I do not know how much they order. So when they are sold out it could be small or big. If it is small than that is just sad.

Hey, Hooper. We play almost every Sunday in Mt. Healthy at Yottaquest. It's straight down 127 from Hamilton, less than 30 min from Hamilton. Somebody who plays is almost always hanging around the rest of the week.

Let me know if you guys ever have a big A&AM day or something - Louisville is close enough to drive there from if it's for an all-day kind of thing.

I love playing magic the gathering. My collection is massive. I normally buy three to five boxes of every set that they print: say 12 boxes at year at $80 a box plus fat packs, preconstrostructed etc so $1,000 a year easy. I sold off my power cards in the early 2000's. If I could, I would buy online as well but that is too expensive to just have electronic cards.
I also love playing Star Wars Mini's: Less needed in that game due to UNIQUE status. Figure 18 packs plus 4 rare singles purchases so $250 on thoses.
Then I like playing A&A minis'.

If I don't get my boosters within two days of them coming out, they're often sold out at my FLAGS. I have no idea who else is buying the game in the area, but it's still selling. And I have no plans to stop playing; hell I'm giddy whenever I think about Set IV (except knowing my luck I'll get the Spitfire and some other silly thing like a Hero in my first booster, lol).
Some people, myself included, need to rant and vent. That doesn't spell doom for the game.

There are 3 stores in my area that carry the game or will have special orders for people. 2 of the stores say there are other people who buy the game. I went yesterday to buy a booster and some clay and they said a guy and his wife bought 9 set III boosters, 3 set II boosters and 2 starters. I am guessing because they bought 2 starters they play the game. He told me they come in every now and than to buy boosters... they are also the ones that left me with only 3 set II bosters on the 1st day (got a king tiger and 2 brummbars :) ) My other FLGS said there are 3 people who special order the cases. He does not know if people play it or not but he told me from his 12 years of exp. that a lot of people will buy online or at stores and will only play at home with there close friends to avoid complainers and other people who destroyer their fun, which he said is the reason they no longer have warhammer which was big at one time, same goes for heroclix, yugioh, D&DM, Starwars... and much more. He said people buy but no one comes into play.

There are at least six gameshops selling it in the Minneapolis-St Paul area. One large magazine chain, thirteen stores, is also selling it. I also see a fairly good trade in singles on Ebay. I really have a feeling that inspite of a few bad miniatures this game is going to outlive this. It will have its run like most games have a run.

Your right. I dont think its going down the drain there does seem to be a silent mass of people who always vote AAM will do fine in the end in poles. Its just the big gamers that bought a ton and come on the forums that dont like it, a minority. Then again this game is a minority. Every few weeks it turns out its just someone and somone else who play and enjoy the game.

It looks to me like the game actually gains more players with each new release. I see more new faces playing each time I visit a gameshop and it seems like more people are bidding on what I put up on Ebay. I would have to say that from the evidence I've seen this game will be around.
The only thing that could and would stop WotC from publishing more of it would be sales revenues to drop off majorly. As long as the game sells well they will publish it.

Wiz. already has my dads money for the navy game. He will not play he just like navy history and anything to do with it. So he would most likely get 1 of each unit.

I frequently visit three different gameshops but have gotten to know the owner of one well enough that I asked him who was actually buying AAM. First off he told me it was the best selling single game he had and then he was amazed how many parents were willingly buying it for their sons. I figured it must seem safer than those 'demonic' roleplaying games.
He also said that it was the older players, the players with jobs, that bought the most. I never underestimate the purchasing potential of youthful gamers but for the big sales look for the older guys with real incomes.

It would be nice if WotC talked to him about who the primary buyers seem to be. Maybe it would cause a rethink of all the kiddie rules and generate some interest in addressing the quality issues.

Agreed.
I am the manager of a store in Quebec City, Canada, and I work full-time there. Albeit my best efforts, I have NOT been able to sell a single starter to someone below 17. They just sneer and go spend their money on Warhammer/DDM/SWM/Pirateso'whatchamacallit/some kind of clicky game. My average customer is about 30.

I wonder if WoTC thinks their best consumers come from the tourney scene, and that maybe they feel they can market best on the tourney model. It's probably alot harder to quantify non-tourney players, harder still in their eyes to market to them.
I suspect, tho, that the real money's in the beer and pretzel, non-tourney crowd.

I also doubt that many parents are forking out the money to buy two or three cases of AAM at a time. WotC really needs to do a little market research. Personally I have no problem with the 'Beer and Pretzels' rules. One of the things I like about the game is that I can play a reasonable game in under an hour.
Now if you want to play a 1000 point game on some monster map arrangement it might be nice to have a few more elaborate rules. You would think WotC might want to encourage the play of larger games as a stimulant to sales. I'll bet those additional sales would come from older guys - like me.

I don't mind Beer and Pretzels rules either. In fact, I rather like B & P. But kiddie rules I mind. A great deal. And in my opinion, A&AM has gotten a pretty good-sized dose of the kiddie.
As to larger games, I haven't done a 1000-point game. But I've done a couple of 500's, and I think the rules lend themselves well to large battles. I played another miniatures game at the club meeting some time back, and it was very good, but combat took a LONG time to resolve.
That's why I hope WotC addresses all of the problems with this game, and stops gearing it for 15-year olds. It's a great game to set up and knock out a game out in an evening, and it would be nice if they'd gear it a little more to adults and leave out all the kiddie stuff.
Dr_Strangelove
05-28-2006, 07:22 PM
I actually prefer the larger games - when you have time to play one. How often do you see a scenario where you actually can field three or four King Tigers or a half dozen IS-2's? If and when this sort of thing happens it will probably be the older player who has the money to scrounge together the necessary miniatures. The bigger games also need a little more detailed rules. Wizards should really be thinking about this.

Yep, this is exactly my opinion too. I'm not expected 100% realism or modeling of every last detail. But I do not like the 'fantasy' aspects that have entered the game of late.
Beer & Pretzels? Good

It's not like we could actually "fix" whatever by ourselves, can we?
So we basically have 3 choices:
1- Accept anything they throw our way
2- Boycott them / stop buying
3- Complain so that things get better, in our opinion at least.
