I am new to this version of A&A (played the origianl), and I first played the Axis against my brother. I lost the first two games, and we are now on our third (I decided I am playing Axis until I can figure out how to win).

So, I guess what my question is: what are some good strategies to utilize when playing Axis powers?

Thanks in advance.

The Axis, I believe, will succeed or fail based on what happens with Japan. Now don't get me wrong, Germany surely has to do its part, but that part is easier if Japan has taken out key cities and territories.
If you are playing to 8 or 9VC, you basically have to snatch failure from the jaws of victory. Germany should buy a couple of subs to occupy the Royal Navy and throw everything at Russia. Japan should send token forces to the Pacific to occupy the US and UK but their true goal is to get troops on the mainland of Asia and go after Russia. Just make it a foot race to Moscow and Axis wins.
If 10 or 12VC things are alot harder. The only two options I can think of is 1) try to take russia in a quick campaign and hope the Allies don't succeed during or after DDay, then send everything at UK, or 2) try Sealion and take UK out first then Russia
Really, a 12VC game is next to impossible to win as Axis because of the shear magnitude of such a task.
OK, there you go...the strategy is all there...you just have to work out the tactics. Good LUCK.

Playing the Axis until you win is a very good idea. I believe that optimized Allied play comes from having mastered optimized Axis play, and it doesn't work the other way around. (puts on flame retardant suit.) ~ZP

I've always found you gotta hit the mainland hard with Japan. Build an IC first turn and start churning out tanks and blitzing land. Get all your fighters over there too. If the US wants to start messing with you let them come to you and while there comming across build a navy. All you got to do is fight attrition with them. the power lies in all the money in Asia.

Look around the board here, there are a lot of great tips.

like:
build a german carrier in the baltic to fend off allied landings

flood asia with japanese armor

try a "sea lion" attack round one

after capturing india put some japanese armor in africa

You get the idea, just look around. :D

Simply take Western US! ;) I've done this with Japan once and it really put a wrench in the Allies plan! Everyone assumes the US is impenatrable, when in fact it is easily attacked! I spent 3 turns churning out transports and infantry in Japan, all in the guise of attacking the mainland. dropped transports in SZ 60 with fleet, pretending to get ready to attack Soviet Far East. Made one bogus attempt, with 4 men and swore I'd take it the next, massed more men watched US and Russian forces refortify Buryatia S.S.R and Soviet Far East. I then turned around and walked 2 tanks 6 inf and 4 art, into Alaska and Western Canada. Took both territories. US took back Western canada on his turn, was unwilling to take a fleet north to confront my larger navy. I then landed 5 planes in Alaska on my next turn, took Western canada back and built a complex in alaska. 4 turns later I owned western ,central US, mexico, Panama, and the US player had tanked into Eastern US.

I plan on trying this again! ;)
