Hi all!

Couldn't find the answer to this in the rule book, so need a little help. It may take me a sec to explain.

On G1, Sub in SZ8 attacks Trans in SZ1, and wins.

On UK1, BB in SZ2 attacks Sub in SZ1 and misses. Sub submerges.

On US1, DD from SZ10 attacks sub in SZ1. DD misses, but Sub hits.

Can the UK BB take the damage?

My group of players had this happen last game. We put it to a vote and said no the UK BB could not take the damage, because it was not involved in the US attack. Is this correct?

Please let me know.

Thanks,
Dave

The answer is:

It would be NO! It is USA's turn (unless you are doing a "Joint Strike"/option rule)-USA as the attacker can not assign damage to the UK BB because the BB is not attacking/part of firing phase! If, on the other hand, the UK BB/ AND a USA ship were the DEFENDERS- then Of course-you may decide who takes the damage! (in that case- the Uk BB)

(hope that helps!)

My interpretation is that the BB is not involved in the combat and therefore cannot be chosen as a casualty.

both answers are correct see page 20 under multinational attack.

In AAE and AAP you certainly could let an Allied ship take the hit, even if it wasn't his turn.

This question has already been addressed by Mike:

Rules Questions About Subs (http://boards.avalonhill.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=10;t=000423#000006)

The rule here is different from Pacific.
