Hey does anyone know any good russian tactics in A&A? Usually as Germany, i am able to pool enough forces together to capture Karrellia in the first turn, using fighters and bombers from my closer territories. But as russia, since i have only begun to play in february, only as axis, what should i do as russia. (we play with russia cannot attack the first turn rule.)
BTW, i thin that i have a decent strategy for russia first turn.
1. Buy 8 infantry
2. Put all infantry from russia into caucas
3. Put 2 armor into the caucas
4. Put fighter from russia into karrelia.
5. Place all 8 infantry into karrelia.

Well, this does leave russia with no units, but u gotta experiment......

Tell me what u think, i need suggestions!! ;)

The best rule for USSR is to get plenty of Infantry, Infantry, and more Infantry! With it ,hopefully you can hold out, in basic A&A, while the other two(UK & US) wear away at Germany via Africa. Also start to take out Germany's Naval forces, and, force the Axis to worry about an Invasion thru Italy/France.

Save most of your precious armour and air in the space behind Russia, with a few Troops to protect from air attacks. It helps if you get a AA gun also. This space along with far eastern troops and armour, and, what you have in Russia space, will be the backbone of your armies when it is time for you to counterattack/defend against a potential German/Japanese attack.

Also, as played, in the Europe game, even a small group of a few troopers & a tank or two and a gun, could force the surviviors (e.g. a Axis tank or two defending), to lose control of your capital Moscow. Inportant for you to keep a tank, in order to have two movements possible, and, roll back into your capital!

When it comes time to buy stuff, it up to you if you want another factory, but try to get 8-10 troops to every 2-3 tanks, fighters over bombers (unless you got advance bombers), skip AC & Battleships, and getting a few transports and subs to help UK fleet to take hits from a potential Operation Sealion Invasion of UK &/or Japanese attack on Soviet Far East. This will defenitly help you in the longrun (also transports can be used to land Brits. in Norway or Russia itself), another time for advance revise A&A, thanks, Pellulo

Hi there Siestraphone.

Try putting all the available infantry (including the eight you purchase) in Karelia, except one that stays in Caucasus. The 1 infantry in Caucasus prevents German panzers from blitzing through. Put both fighters in Karelia, but put the Armor in Russia, Persia, Sinkiang, or Novosbirsk. The tanks have more options from these spots.

Germany can take Karelia, but they shouldn't. Germany can hit Karelia with 11 infantry, 8 armor, 5 fighters and 1 bomber. Karrelia will fall, but Germany will only hold it with afew tanks, probably less than five. Germany will loose a plane to the aa, but worse, UK will keep all her transports.

With her fleet intact, England can liberate Karelia right away. Russia can build there next turn, and Germany has nothing to show except a monetary loss of units, a heafty British fleet, a fighter in the grave, and a depleted Europe.

Most of the trick to holding out with Russia is strong and fast support from the allies. UK and U$A should be dumping units into Finland every turn, and from there to Karelia. UK can buy an AC on turn one (with a transport) and U$A can land fighters on it before Germany can destroy it.

Don't even think about biulding a fleet in the US Pacific. Build an atlantic fleet (mostly transports) and load infantry from Canada directly into Finland. send as little as needed into Africa, and don't count on invading Itally through the Mediterranean. The Allies in Karelia are so fast and strong that Germany can't do much except buy infantry and wait for Japan to come to the rescue.

I'm oversimplifying things, but You should have no problem keeping Germany at bay.

Try adding the optional Weapons Development Benefits for the Axis, if you want a really spicy game.

Enjoy.

Wait...if Britian Liberates Kareia USSR owns it again? I thought Britain got to keep it. I remember a rule about how if they liberate a capital, say UK liberates Moscow, Russia can collect IPC's, but they dont get the 8 for Moscow

Good Strategy. This is the one I always use and I've never lost.just remember:INFANTRY,INFANTRY,INFANTRY. Another good strategy is to withdraw your troops from the Soviet far east into the YakutS.S.R to form a strong front against the Japanese. Also try to help out China and Sinkiang with a couple infantry.

Another strategy for the Russians is to have a cease-fire with Japan. That way, Russia can send all of its forces to the German front. If Japan agrees to the truce, then Russia will be able to build up its forces while Japan will be albe to attack China, which is its main objective after knocking out the American fleet. Russia and Japan both will benefit from the cease-fire with each other.
