When playing as Axis recently, I took over a Russian territory with the Germans. Then on my turn with Japan, I wanted to land my Japanese fighters in that territory, but my friends argued I couldn't do that because it was 'newly acquired'. My argument is that it wasn't newly acquired because teh Germans captured it, not Japan.

The rules state that you can only land fighters in territory that was friendly at the start of your turn. I believe it was friendly, but my friends don't. Any thoughts?

Yes, you are right. The territory must be friendy at the start of your TURN. 'TURN' is nation specific, so it means: at the start of your Japanese turn. At the start of your Japanese turn there were no enemy forces, but there are friendly forces and the territory is under control of your ally: the territory is friendly and you can land Japanese planes there.

To pile on further, the rules are pretty clear about 'turn' vs. 'round'. A lot of noobs are not.
