Hi Matt, I hope the following answers could give you some light about your issues:

STRATEGY FOR GERMANY (Which you surely already know)

The overall goal of the Axis Power’s is to win by economic default. If Germany and Japan can gather large pools of money they can buy many offensive units. With Germany, the primary economic asset is Africa. The continent can give you 9 extra IPC’s and will sieve a crippling to the British economy.

There are two differing views as in how to take over Africa. The more prevalent view is that Africa is a secondary concern. Russia must be defeated before it can build a massive defensive force. In accordance to this, Germany should spend most of its time on assaulting the USSR. Varieties of strategic bombing raids, North Sea air raids (this is important), and tank assaults on Karelia should be used to weaken the UK and USSR.

This stratagem can be hamstrung through three ways:

1.The UK and US can build a colossal naval force in the North Sea, weakening the Luftwaffe. Even one carrier and two fighters is enough to resist your whole Luftwaffe. Don’t think that you don’t have to attack, though. If an Allied navy is assembled in the North Sea, and Germany is unable to stop it, you might as well get into a burning bunker and shoot yourself. NEVER let the Allies get control of the North Sea.

2.Russia decides to concentrate on Germany and let the US bear the brunt of Japanese assault. If the USSR pushes Germany back, the economy of the Nazi’s is to badly damaged to continue further.

3.Great Britain builds up in Africa. If this happens, Germany is forced to concentrate on two fronts. A war of this type is impossible to carry on.

Because of these huge holes, I prefer to use an Africa First strategy, especially against a weaker Russian player. Buy a fighter and 2 tanks, and save the rest for the first round. Use naval and air units to destroy all Allied units within range, especially the North Sea and the Med. sea zones. Make sure that the United States is discouraged from launching attacks towards Africa. Try to capture Karelia. By the next turn, Germany can launch naval assaults into Africa, and take over the whole continent(an industrial complex in Anglo-Egypt Sudan is EXTREMELY helpful.

1ST STRATEGY FOR JAPAN

Japan is the rare case where every single intelligent player agrees - TAKE ASIA. There are varied plots to use, including transport lines, complexes, and a combination of both. The OVERALL best strategy is to build a complex on the mainland and support it with a strong navy.

Japan is also the site of the most argument, with the never ending question - should it attack Hawaii? The overwhelming answer in this case is “it all depends”, but I’ve found that Japan is better off not attacking, or attacking with a small force. This may tempt the US to build a navy(good, because it limits attacks on Germany), but when the US actually gets around to using it, it can be very bad. The US has a variety of options if you don’t attack, so prepare for a US complex in Asia or Alaska. Japan usually has to get at least 10 IPCs before the Axis and Allied combined incomes are the same, so Japan has to be ready to attack the high-IPC low-risk territories - India, Soviet Far East, and the other Russian outer zones. Unless there is a complex in China or Sinkiang, you may not want to attack there.

Japan, unlike Germany, has no neccesity for speed, so may slow the pace of the war, but you must remember that Germany can’t defeat the UK, US, and the USSR by itself.

2ND STRATEGY FOR A COASTAL ATTACK WITH JAPAN - (Japan - Bombardment of the US)

This is a really cheap strategy to use against the USA. Buy one battleship in the first round, and attack Hawaii. As long as the US fleet is destroyed, it's OK, but you probably won't want to lose your battleship! By the 2nd or 3rd round, have a navy of 2 transports(4 infantry) and 3 battleships stationed in Hawaii. Attack the Western USA with only one infantry and all three battleship. Unless the USA has a large air force, your fleet will be safe. Over the next four rounds continue to do the same. By the end of the 6th or 7th round, make sure Russia is captured.

At this point, you should have brung a transport with infantry on it and captured the territory.

This drives USA player crazy because it is really hard to give up a 10 IPC worth territory and to keep it, it must suffer from the extra damage of the battleships. Either giving up the land or suffering the damage, the US will be damaged severely.

Now Japan can spend money in the US. Use the complex in Western USA to build bombers. Conduct strategic bombing raids on the Eastern US and land the bombers in Mexico, with the support of an antiaircraft gun and a lot of infantry. Make sure to attack any naval units in range.

The main purpose of the bombing to reduce the cash that the US can spend. Bomb repeatedly while your navy attacks regular units. When using this strategy, Japan should have an income of about 60 IPCs.

The best strategy in your case I guess it´s to apply the Germany Strategy and then whichever you want from Japan in order to combine Axis powers and attack the Allies powers from more places. For the case of Japan I always apply the first strategy to eliminate the russians menace and then with the Germans I eliminate the english menace that comes from Africa.

Also you could try to eliminate Russia by attacking them with Germany and then with Japan (always defending both countries from USA and Britain attacks). Once Russia is eliminated the Axis powers can rule over most of the countries of Europe and will be well consolidated as a good defending and attacking front wich will surely end in an Axis triumph over the Allied forces.

I have never tried it, but it is easier said than done. There is no way Germany can win against Russia if Russia uses the infantry strategy rule!! For Russia, numbers win the war, not the kinds of units. For Germany to win against Russia, it must take Karelia. Any experienced player would say that and it is true, but also attack from the south as well. I have not played the game in a long time, but I still remember my strategies of the game.

Not to boast, be cocky, or brag, but except once I have never lost when I was the Allies. That was against a friend of mine who was very similar to me in strategies since he and I have adopted each other's strategies. smile.gif I would love to play anyone in the game, one on one to test the skills of both of us. smile.gif You can contact me whenever you wish. I have cable modem so you can IM me anytime you want. Usually if I have my away message on, I am not at the computer. I will challenge anyone if you are very good at the game. I will play either side. I have yet to learn how to win with the Axis powers, especially with the Russian strategy of buying eight infantries at the start of the game!! I consider myself to be a very good player at the game and I may be rusty, but I do not forget my strategies at all.
