And we had a full 6 player game at that. Great fun! Not too deep, but I like planning you need to do with your hand of cards that has to last you the whole game.

Yeah, it's a decent game. I think the fun factor is lower than some comparable games, but the replay value certainly makes up for that.

Which comparable games do you consider more fun?
I finally played Advanced Civilization today. It's been a big weekend for classic AH civ games.

I saw History of the World in the local game store. How comparable is it to Adv. Civ.?
I've never been a big fan of that genre, but Adv. Civ. always left me pleased.

I think you'll find HoW a fun, quicker play than Adv. Civ. There are few similiarites, HoW has no trade -- you play a different civ every turn -- and the combat is different.
HoW is also the easier game to introduce to non-grognards.

They are completely different games. I like them both for different reasons. History of the World is almost an (I groan as I say this) Advanced Risk. By that I mean the combat is similar and the game isn't overly complex. But there are a lot of little things that make the game cool - the best being the mechanic to assign new nations to the players each epoch. The game's biggest flaw is the downtime you can have before it's your turn again. Especially if you play early in one epoch and then late in the next.
