I loved wargaming and played a number of games, 3R, Bulge II, Bismark, Gettysburg modified, and dozens of others I can't even remember. Does anyone still play? How do you find opponents? Are there other sources for information?

Anyone's input will be appreciated.

A lot of play has shifted to the Internet. Check out the topics that reference PBEM (Play By E-Mail). Do computer searches for ADC2 and Cyberboard (game playing utilities) and WebGrognards (General Information), and ConsimWorld (Discussion Groups). HPS Simulations and ConsimWorld have Opponents Wanted lists. PBM is still big too. Make a search for AHIKS. They arrange matches with opponents.

Mike,

Charles says it all!
As you can see wargaming is still alive and doing well, specially if we consider the hard competition vs video games ;)
Me too I've been away from the hobby for years and was pleasantly surprised to discover this nice reality since I started doing some research on Internet since last summer!

Happy gaming,

Dolf

Dolf,

You might want to try http://vassalengine.org This site has a large number of games ready to go. Unlike ADC and Cyberboard (great for play by email), VASSAL allows you to play live or by email. You can also just save the game whenever you need to and continue live later if need be. Check it out......

HPS is a computer oriented company that produces ADC2 and many other computer wargames. Their URL is www.hpssims.com (HPS Simulations).

There are many people out there that still play these games. There are many websites devoted to some of the old games. In addition, there is AHIKS (an international PBM/PBEM group for all games but especially the old Avalon Hill games.) Also, there is CyberBoard, Vassal, and a couple others that I'm forgetting at the moment, devoted to online play of these old games. Many of these sites, groups, etc. have ways to get into games with others and contact with others that play the games.

Hope that helps.
