No one has mentioned what to call the new game...
Is it Axis & Allies 2, New and improved Axis & Allies, Fourth Edition Axis & Allies???
Any insight would be great.
I'd be more inclined to have some interesting name rather then just calling it A&A 2.

It has the most interesting name possible: Axis & Allies.

So this will be the third edition then?
Surely there will be something to distinguish the new game with it's additional pieces and possible map changes...
But then can it really be a third edition since you can't really use the original game anymore since it will be missing the pieces and map updates.
Or the last possibility is a still unveiled name???
Mike,
Can you throw us another bone? tongue.gif
Your answer was not what I expected. I keep trying to figure out how this will work but it still keep drawing up blanks...
Please elaborate.

Hi Der Panzinator.
The new release clearly will not be the third edition of the Game Master version. This is a new version of Axis and Allies, released under a new lable (Avalon Hill).
I see this as being altogether similar to the 1984 release of Axis and Allies under the (at the time new) lable of Milton Bradley. The Game Master version included some fairly drastic rules and map changes from the Nova Games version. Nonetheless, Milton Bradely released the game as 'Axis and Allies', and with a rule set that came to be known as 'first edition'. You yourself refered to this as "the original game".
Granted, the Milton Bradley version is much more famous and established than the Nova Games version ever was. Still, I do not see the situation as being much diferent. Perhaps the games will come to be known as 'Axis and Allies: Game Master', 'Axis and Allies: Avalon Hill', and 'Axis andf Allies: Nova' I think that's fine.
Happy gaming

It's called Axis & Allies because it is expected to replace the Milton Bradley version on the shelves. It's not an expansion, like D-Day. It's the base game. There won't be a version number or a subtitle.

The name "Third edition" is already taken. They are the rules that were added to the cd-rom edition. 1. Subs can submerge. 2. Planes can retreat from amphibious assault. 3. You can place newly purchased naval units in enemy oocupied sea zone. 4. Western Canada does not border on Atlantic Ocean.
The online clubs all play 3rd edition almost exclusively, sometimes with russia restricted or axis advantage options on, and always with a bid to even the game. Online players will continue to play 3rd edition unless a cd-rom with the new map/units is released.
Mike I'm sure your game will be great. I'm looking forward to trying it.
