I posted some of these before, but wanted to put them all in one post. I can add to it as I think of some more.
Not really that inventive. Take the best units for Germany and put them together. I am sure we all have made the same builds. (The build with the Tiger I and SS-Panzergrenadiers is a pretty standard build from Set I.)
Anyway, the criteria was 100 points, 15 units maximum, try to keep the rares to a minimum, and come up with a name for the army. (Any build that is less than 100 points, you can add in Obstacles of your choice. )
Anyone else want to contribute? Builds with Aircraft or antiair ability?

Check out this thread (http://boards.avalonhill.com/showthread.php?t=13441). It contains some of my favorite German builds.
Also, has anyone noticed that one of each SS unit in the game makes 100 points exactly?

SS-Pz IV (32)

They all look like great armies. I might have to try a couple of them out some time.

I changed the Panzer III army build from five Elite Panzers and two BMWs to what it is now: three Elite Panzers and two Pumas. It may end up being a weaker build as there are two less units and those are the two Elite Panzers. A Puma at 23 points is probably not worth an Elite Panzer (18) and BMW (5). However, it does have good attacks, speed, and Strike and Fade. Plus it makes a nice counter army to the four Shermans and two Humber Cars that has been popular since Set I.

Isn't it a bit risky to field two Pumas without a leader to control initiative?
I would dump one of the Pumas for a SS-HStFu, Hero, and BMW. Also upgrade one of the Elites to a Hetzer in case you run into a heavy tank.
Something like this:
23 Puma
20 Hetzer
36 Elite Panzer IVD x2
07 SS-HStFu
08 Grizzled Hero
05 BMW
01 Tank Trap
100 points

My current favorite German Army @ 100 is
1x Elite Panzer IV
1x Stug III
1x Hetzer
1x 20 mm Flack
1x Haupster
1x Grizzly veteran
4x SSPG's
Very effective and balanced. Covers both heavy armour, infantry and air threats.
Must be played with precision and care due to the vulnerability of the light armour.
Currently undeafeated with this army 3-0.

what about this one
100 points 11 units:
PzIV G
W.O.L
4x WVI
3x Mauser
Hetzer
Grizzled Vet.
the reason why i placed the WVI instead of SSPG's is because
honestly, i'm tired of using them, so now i'm using the WVI

I tend to do the same Kommandant. I love the combo SS-Haupsturmfürer with the Wehrmacht Veteran Infantryman. My opponent have a bad tendancy to use their planes against my SS-Haupstrumfürer, but they end up in dust.

Isn't it a bit risky to field two Pumas without a leader to control initiative?
Well, the build is the Axis version of four Shermans and two Humbers. No leaders required for initiative. Your opponent decides if you go first and thereby get to use you Strike and Fade vehicles, or lets you go second and get the benefits of being second. Anyway, it is a highly specialised build. It would be neat to pit the two builds against each other. I suspect there would be a lot of dancing around each other until turn 7. However, the Axis build (three Elites and two Pumas) would not work so great against other general builds, as the anti-Soldier attacks are low as compared to the Shermans and Humbers.

Panzer IV
3x Elite Panzer IV Ausf. D (54)
1x Flakpaner IV Wirbelwind (19)
1x Jagdpanzer 38(t) Hetzer (20)
1x SS-Haupsturmfuhrer (7)
100 points, 6 units, 1 rare
Another build with 3 Elite Panzer IV tanks as the core. The Hetzer gives more antitank ability and the Flakpanzer gives protection from the air and can be used against enemy Soldiers.

Panzer V (Early War 1940)
3x Elite Panzer IV Ausf. D (54)
3x Panzer III Ausf. F (39)
1x SS-Haupsturmfuhrer (7)
100 points, 7 units, no rares.
Good for a Battle of France scenario. Those Char-B tanks are tough, so even though the Elite Panzer IV is a little cheesy, I do not feel so bad about using this build against someone that has three tanks with defense of 5 and two attacks.

With any of the five sets, you can always make an army for Germany using only the minis from that set. With Set V, there are a lot of options for early and late war. With the Panther D, my most wanted unit of the set, Germany finally gets a good tank to match the T-34. Sure, the various Tigers are available, but I like to put two tanks in an army.
So for a late war theme, such as the final Battle of Berlin, I would field an army along these lines:
Defense of Berlin
70 Panther Ausf. D x2
19 Messerschmitt Me262
11 Werwolf Partisans, Volkssturm Infantrymen and Obstacles
100 points, 3 rares, 4+ commons
The two Panther tanks to handle just about any tank, the Jet and common Soldiers for infantry, ammo dumps and the like.
An alternate would be to remove the Jet and use an Expert Sniper with even more Pillboxes, Mines, Barbed Wire, Tank Obstacles and poorly trained and equipped militia.
For an army to oppose this German build and in keeping with the Battle of Berlin theme, I would use this (and I will have to post it in my Allied builds thread):
Soviet Invaders
76 IS-3
24 PPSh-41 SMG x8
100 points, 1 rare, 8 commons
You may want to use other Soldiers that have a Close Assault ability, in case you feel the beastly IS-3 can not handle two tanks. Granted you could face an Expert Sniper and having two Panthers fire on it while it is disrupted could be bad.

i personally don't consider the Elite Panzer IV Ausf D's cheesy
main reason being, they die very easy, even the French Panhard
is a threat to it

I made a build during school that just came to me
Panther Ausf D
Me-262
Panzer 38(t)
MG-42
x3 W.V.I.
x5 Volksturm or 1 Whermacht Expert Sniper
There was one point lee-way I believe so you could use the Sniper instead of Volksturm.
The plan is for the 38(t) to flank enemy tanks while the Panther fights them head on. The volksturm was a sacrificial force to be thrown into the enemies guns while the main force of vets with the MG push to take and hold the objective. This is just a casual build because I never play tournys.

I've been meaning to try out this build, which literally throws together every version of the Panzer 4 that I've collected thus far:
Elite Panzer 4 D (18)
Flakpanzer 4 Wirbelwind (19)
Jagdpanzer 4/48 (29)
Panzer 4 G (30)
Minefield X2 (4)
100 pts total.
It's not a competitive build, I don't think, nor a real infantry killer, but I still think it would be fun. If I had the minis, I'd like to drop the Panzer 4 G and minefields in favor of an SS Panzer 4 F2 and possibly some barbed wire, though I think a minefield might be more useful since it can pop up where it's needed. The SS oanzer 4 would be a huge improvement over the Panzer 4 G in my eyes, as the combination of SS determination and Battlefield Awareness pretty much guarantees that the tank will get a chance to do significant damage even when it can't take advantage of its range. Another modification might be to drop the Elite Panzer 4 D and both minefields for a Sturmpanzer 4 Bruumbar. This would signifcicantly boost the anti-infantry power and durability of the build, especially against the possibility of heavy tanks that would pop the elite 4 without breaking a sweat.

Although my thread has German in the title, I am going to use it for other Axis army builds. So, my first one is for Italy.
Tanks and Mortars
60 Carro Armato M13/40 x5
06 Stalwart Lieutenant
10 Ammo Dump
24 Brixia M35 45mm Mortar x6
100 points, 13 units, 5 rares
The Ammo Dump's Plentiful Ammo ability will work for both the Brixia Mortar's attacks. And since you can reroll 1's, this will reduce the chances of the Brixia becoming disrupted because of its Rapid Fire ability. The Carro is the best Axis tank for early war with its 4 front defense and Overlapping Fire. Getting five probably will not be too hard as most people will want to trade their extras. Obviously, this build is best against other pre-1942 armies like the French or British. Against a French build of say 3 Char-B1s you will have it tough, but so would any German build limited to 1939-40 units.
To mix it up, you can trade off Brixia Mortars for Fucile Modello 1891 soldiers, say 12 points of each. Or remove the Mortars and go with 8 Fucile Modello soldiers and this would give you the max 15 units.
