I question why the new box cover so prominantly displays Mussolini? There are many other commanders/leaders who played far greater roles in the outcome of WWII instead of the Hitler-puppeted Benito.

Also, as a side note. We never use the IPC chart or the paper IPC 'cash'. We use paper and pencil to keep track of who has how much money, by adding how much one country is 'up' minus what they are 'down' from their starting base money. For example, on Germany end of turn 2, they might be 'up' a good deal of africa, say $8, but 'down' $5 (Finland-Norway and Ukraine) giving them a net of +$3, or $35.

Having that old the leader(Il Duce) is more than approiate, when it comes to Axis Powers European War Leaders, only Hitler outranks him.

After all, the Nazi party was a Germanic version, of the Italian ideal, of a strong dicatorship. One of the first countries to rearm after W.W. One was Italy, and, one of ther first to get kicked out of the League of Nations for aggresion (invasion of Ethopia).

Hitler needed Italy's political support for the renuification of Germany and Austria, and, both worked togethere to set up Franco in Spain. Let's face it, the "Wolf of Rome", certainly was more vicious than the leaders of the other axis allied european countries (FinLand, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary), or, politically friendly Spain (much less politically subject states like Vichey France).

Also Italy had a good Industrial base, and, a great arm forces (but ill lead med.fleet and air arm and army, they needed a better officer corps), as compared to other European Axis Powers.

Also it could be a PC problem, Il Duce is more accepitable on a box cover than old Adolf (don't tell that to the Libiyans/Ethopians), take care, Pellulo.

PS unless in the future you have, as part of the main cover, the leaders of, the major Axis & Allies nations.

You hit the nail on the head at the end of your post. No way they would put Hitler on that box because of who he was and what he did. But come on. ITALY IS NOT IN THIS GAME. Rommell is/was politically acceptable and a recognizable WWII figure who is synonomous with war games and great strategies. No one else makes sense. Who else you would put there? DeGualle? Quisling?

Yes, Italy is not in the game, but its' forces are recognized in the game. If you want to get technical, Germany isn't in the game either, because what is called the German player's dominion, is actually several different Axis countries, represented by one unifing color. As for not putting Hitler on the box cover, you're probably right that his deeds prevented this, but a decent respect for historical accuracy would declare that Hitler was more influential, and should be on the cover.

I mentioned this in another post about mussolini on the cover. He does deserve to be there since he did create Fascism which Hitler copied, and perverted. However I think that Italy should be in the game, regardless of how weak they were. Mussolini's army was semi-active all the way till he was outed in '43 then puppeted by Hitler. Mussolini coined the phrase axis and therefore was a founding member, HE SHOULD BE IN THE GAME. Even if he has 10 IC, if not for history for balance. 3 on 3 is a much more fun game to play and if gives the allies their soviet union.

I don't want to wade too deep into this debate, because it's about personal preference and thus all opinions are valid.

I do, however, encourage folks to read Kugelfang's post under "New A&A Game Out in 2004." He asks Avalon Hill to make it possible to sell Axis & Allies in Germany. That would be impossible with a major Nazi figure like Hitler or Rommel on the cover. As I understand it, you can't display swastikas and Nazi leaders on anything that goes through the mail. Especially not a game.

That's not me expressing an opinion about whether Mussolini belongs on the cover, just a fact about whether Hitler or Rommel could be there.

Perhaps in some future A&A Game, Italy and other Axis Allies might be put aside in some sort of unbrellua group. The IPC would be higher cause you would have Italy, Finland, Romania, Bulgaria, and, Romania in that group.

Also(for N. Africa) the bulk of armour, not so much mobile troops, but, regular troops, majority of guns(sans heavy), and, air and sea in Africa were Italian, even Rommel had an Italian Superior, thanks, Pellulo

Check out Xeno's Europe at War if you want your Axis Minors fix. You might find the rules a bit of a problem, but nothing a little common sense and house rules can't take care of.
