Just want to bounce a couple ideas off the members here.

I really like using these figures, but I do not like dropping them whenever and wherever I choose so I have been tinkering with a few ideas.

Let me start with the paras since it is the easiest. I deploy them like regular foot soldiers, but let them deploy like normal, 5 hexes from my end, or within 2 of any other border as long as they are at least 3 hexes away from an enemy unit. I feel it gives them a little boost and I can rationalize it by thinking they are forward units coming from a different location.

For the Hero piece, player spends 5 points in the army build to have a chance of using a Hero. From there it is all luck. Two ideas so far. First is if a regular infantry piece(Garand, Mauser, SMLE, Mosin, and Ariska) is disrupted for two straight turns and at the end of the second causality phase not destroyed then replace it with a Hero. The drawback is your opponent may intentionally not target the piece so they can avoid the hero chance. The second is, if a regular infantry piece destroys two units, roll one die and on 4+ replace with a hero at the end of the causality phase if it has not been destroyed. This puts the hero chance squarely on the owner rather than the opponent. The Hero chance is limited to one per game, no matter the size. Personally I play 500+ games.

I feel this greatly increases the number of reg infantry in our games, and I like that. Sorry I just like using a ton of infantry is some games.

So far these have worked out great, but more eyes reviewing something is always better.

Thanks for reading and any input is appreciated.

The real problem with the Hero and the Paratrooper is that the game supports no concept of "hidden setup" or "concealed information."

Basically, you already have the Paratroopers and Hero out in the field when you set up - just no one can see them until they pop out and make themselves known.

The problem with this is it allows you to deploy them in random locations rather than pre-determined assignments, as would be realistic.

If you want to add more realism to your Paratroopers and Hero in home games, you might want to consider using a Hidden Setup variant with your opponent. After all Obstacles are deployed, mark down the location of your Paratroopers on a piece of paper. When you would normally deploy a Paratrooper, you can ignore their deployment restrictions and instead reveal the model in the hex you previously noted.

As for the Hero, many of them are good enough to play without the special deployment rules at all. You might try setting them up as normal units - or only deploying them through Hero rules on Turn 1.

There are a lot of little tweaks you can add to home games to add the additional level of complexity that it takes to bring added realism to the more abstracted and over-simplified elements of the game.
