I always wondered whether there was "historical basis" for a German AC right around Spring 1942... :)

By May 1941, Raeder was still optimistic about the project and informed Hitler that Graf Zeppelin, then about 85% complete, would be completed in about a year and that another year would be required for sea trials and flight training.

Though Raeder continued to assure Hitler that the carriers would be built, the Admiral's battles with Göring became increasingly bitter. Göring showed his contempt for the naval air arm by informing Hitler and Raeder that the aircraft ordered for Graf Zeppelin could not be available until the end of 1944. Göring's delaying tactics worked.

I sent in a email requesting that it be considered for future production. Suggest others who are interested do the same. They do listen when we make them money. DKM Graf Zeppelin.

I do know for a fact that the Graf Zeppelin was never completed primarily due to Goerings refusal to allow even partial control of his air wings under Admiral Raeder control due to service interrivalry and the fact that these two did not meet eye to eye on many things.
Goering proclaimed many times that "anything in the air belongs to me" more times than imaginable and this cause a great rift because Goering felt it was indirectly a method by which his power would be undermined. Of course it was not possible to allow Goering control over how carrier planes were deployed and thus the situation and the carrier project was shelved as the need for every plane possible was required on the eastern front and Germany pretty much adandoned any ideas about a challenge to British naval superiority.
