It was poorly implemented attempt to make Mediterranean strategy attractive for German player.

The historical reason for North African campaign was the defense of Italy, not the conquest of Iraq. Once designer(s) decided not to put the industrial complex in the Middle East the whole campaign lost its purpose, from both game and historical point of view.
