me and my friends play axis and allies the board game
and today we decided to switch the infantry units of the
board game with the infantry units of the axis and allies miniatures
and it looked pretty cool seeing all those WVI's and SSPG's on the board
so i was wondering, since i know that we are not the first ones to do this
how many people do this?

Been doing that for years w/ micromachine soldiers. I even have a similar scale soldier of another unknown brand that's british, w/ the magazine curved over the top of the machine gun that I almost always put in India. The other day we played and I realized I've had a Ghurka there all these years. :D

I've never done it but it has crossed my mind. I think that you'd need a bigger map. I have the ships and the A&A minis pieces but would need more aircraft - expensive if you use A&A mini planes. Hopefully the 21st Century Toys 1/144 will be in the stores soon. They have a Frank, P-51, Hellcat, and ME-262 coming out - can't wait!!!

My friends and I play on an awesomely huge custom map (something like 6x3 feet). I've done a complete replacement of infantry, artillery, and armor units with A&A Minis, but we usually don't do this when playing a serious game. It's usually easier to just use the standard, monochromatic units provided with the game. There's less confusion, less sorting, etc. However, often one or two players during the course of an A&A game run out of a particular unit. If the Allies are going KGF, then I find Japan often runs out of INF and/or ARM. In such a case, minis are a great substitute. You can put a Arisaka Rifle on, say, the Caroline Islands and be confident that it will stay there for awhile, freeing up a regular orange A&A Japanese INF unit for use on the mainland. Every once in awhile you'll see an A&A Minis FTR used too. Once War at Sea comes out, we'll be able to sub for every unit on the board accept for bombers (and I guess you could use Stukas for German bombers).
