I am excited A&A is being redone - I am a bigtime fan.I saw two pics of the new research charts and IPC tracking charts. I BEG you don't put those two UGLY looking charts out. I am not sure if the IPC chart is a joke it so bad looking. The research chart needs to get ride of all that RED.
Some common sense is needed here - NEON type bright RED, wacked out colors are NOT WANTED. Subdue those charts we want a military look to this map, charts and battle board. I want to sit down and have the game and charts be pleasing to the eye. Your not redoing a sci- fi game, have it changed, better to have one person redo them or thousands fans and customers unhappy.
Those wacked out colors cheapons the entire look of the game. The city chart and country buy charts look fine so far but other FIX.
Other Axis and Allies fans HELP ME HERE! You want the map board, charts and units every color of the spectrum or A WARGAME that looks good. Earth type colors give the game a military look PLEASE.

Take a look at the old weapons development/ national production chart.. it's not exactly pretty, but it gets the job done. I am not particularly impressed with the flashy red/black color scheme I have seen so far, and as you said military colors would be more appropiate. But my main concern is the game itself - not the colors.
On a second note, they made a point of removing all the blowupboxes from the map to improve playability, yet the game seems to be drowning in charts: weapons development, IPC chart, those new marshalling circles, victory cities, etc. I wonder if it wouldn't have been better to try the opposite approach and fit everything on a single large board, or perhaps make two boards: one for the map, and a secondary board for everything else, just to keep things in place.
I can hardly wait to see the new map. I just hope the world isn't black with flames..

I agree that more proffesional, or traditional charts would be more appropriate to the game, but I think that the new stuff looks kind of cool, even though not historical or such.

I emailed my wargaming buddies the new charts pics. They agreed the city chart and unit cost chart looks ok BUT the Ipc production chart and research chart are bad. The main complaint was to much red in research chart. The main complaint about the Ipc tracking chart with the big red bomber was as follows and I quote.
"Omg what are they thinking"
"I am blind"
"Got a match" Burn baby Burn
"Get photoshop 6.0 up and running we should make our own charts, I can't use that."
"If they making charts like that what will board look like, now I am really worried."
"WOW with chart like that, what will the map look like neon green and baby pink."
"We don't need no stinky charts"
This is now a worry of mine also now. I not sure the map will look good after seeing that production chart. They need to see what a good looking map is - take a look at the game board ATTACK from Eagle Games.

The Attack! board is pretty good. I haven't decided if I like all the pics on the board, or if it would look better w/o them. Border art is good, though.

I agree that the charts look a bit "to much". Especially since there is a risk that the markers will be difficult to see if the chart is so powerful in its colors.
But its hard to judge before we see it in play.

I can't say that I'm a big fan of the new graphic design, but I'll wait until I see the package as a whole before I pass judgement. Sometimes think look bad on their own (especially if you are trying to imagine them sitting beside the traditional board) but then they look fine when placed in the context of the overall game design. I hated the graphics design for Risk 2210 when I first saw pics of it on the web, but now that I have the game I don't mind it.

I know that Mike did not appreciate this observation but anyone can see that bomber and the red stream coming from it look like a giant phallic symbol.
I much prefer the more subdued colors of the UK set up chart. Can't wait to see the map.

The few pics I've seen of the charts are cool.
They remind me of those big plotting tables you see in the movies with the grid lines where they use the sticks to move models around.
But I guess everyone has their own idea about what cool is.

"rabble, rabble, rabble!"  ;) </font>[/QUOTE]okay, how bout "looks like it belongs in a game about raves."
It does indeed look horrible.
In reality though, who actually bothers with any of the charts? I know my group bring out the battle board for the big battles and that's about it. We never bother with IPC trackers etc with the exception AAP because of the kamikaze (sp?) tracker.
Hell, we dont even use the money, preferring instead to keep all financial records on paper (it's nice to look back on your income progression over the course of a game).
