Fighting Platform and artillery

i was wondering if you are allowed for a m1 81mm Mortar,sGrW 34 81mm Mortar, or a 82mm PM-37 Mortar to be placed inside of a unit that has fighting platform. i know they are infantry but they are also artillery. however i have seen clips where they have had them inside and launching from the rear of a halftrack

Those medium mortars all have the subtype Artillery, and only units with the Gun Transport special ability can carry Artillery. Currently in the game, no units have both Gun Transport and Fighting Platform, so the answer to your question is no.

However, the light mortars -- US M2, German light, and Japanese knee mortar -- don't have the subtype Artillery, so they can be used from a halftrack with Fighting Platform.

I'm not familiar with the German version of this weapon combo, but the US M4 mortar carriage fitted with an 81mm mortar was a specially-modified, dedicated artillery unit, not just a regular halftrack with a mortar set up in the bed.
