View Full Version : Modified die rolls impacting SA effects

Hi there. In a previous post entitled 'Ammo Depot and overheat', it was asked whether an initial die roll counts towards the effects of an SA, in this case the 'Plentiful Ammo'. The question concerned units like the Brixia Mortar & the Kuomintang Machine Gun.

It was answered that "Only the final dice results count toward SAs."

Now, this has me confused as I always thought that the original die roll (not the modifier or re-roll) counted towards an SA. I posted a question some time ago entitled 'Brixia Mortar again...', where I asked whether the original OR modified die roll from the Rapid Fire SA impacted the unit's potential Disrupted effect.

It was answered that "You're only concerned about dice that actually show 1 pip, not dice that are modified down to 1s."

So, what is the answer here? Personally , I always thought it should be the modified or re-rolled 'final' die results that count. Thanks very much for clearing this up.

Unless we're talking about different things, I don't see a contradiction. There's an essential difference between a die that's modified from a 1 to a 2 by a +1 bonus and a die that changes from a 1 to a 2 because it was re-rolled. The re-roll negates the existence of the 1 as if it never occurred. The bonus still leaves 1 pip showing on the die, even though it's treated as a 2 when counting successes.

Ok, so let me get this straight - the potential effects of an SA are impacted by the ACTUAL die roll result or a re-roll; not the modifier.

So if a Brixia Mortar used its Rapid Fire SA to attack an enemy Soldier at medium range, and rolled 6,5,3,2,1 (before the Innacurate 1 modifier is applied), then the Brixia Mortar would normally be immediately Disrupted because of the 1 rolled. Suppose, then, that there is an Ammo Dump in play: its Plentiful Ammo allows the Brixia to re-roll that 1. He does so and gets a 2. Would this now prevent him from becoming immediately Disrupted?

The Innacurate 1 modifier then applies, making the final attack dice 5,4,2,1,1. I trust that with only two success rolled he scores two more successes because of Shrapnel 2, for a total of four successes.

So to be clear, it is the actual dice results rolled on the table which impact the potential Disruption; not the Innacurate 1 modifier. Am I right in this? Sorry to be a pain, but I get awfully confused sometimes...Thanks again for helping out here.

That's all correct.
