If you haven't read the Main Thread, I suggest reading that first:
http://boards.avalonhill.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=10;t=001061
This is basically an effort to produce 3 BALANCED National Advantages for each nation for Competitive Play. These should be neither overpowered or underpowered, should be useful strategically, and should have an equal chance of being picked (players select 1 per nation, Axis gets 1 extra for either Germany or Japan). These BALANCED NAs may be either original NAs, slightly modified NAs, or totally new NAs.
Each thread begins with a quick breakdown of current NAs. In responding, try and describe which THREE (rather than just one or two) you would pick and why. Feel free to include other people's ideas in your three choices. This thread is for German NAs. If you wish to discuss NAs in general, please reply to the Main Thread.
Germany National Advantages
1. U-Boat Interdiction - Balanced but Flawed. Germany can build U-boats strictly in the Med, nowhere near US/UK, and still take 1 IPC/turn.
2. Atlantic Wall - Balanced.
3. Panzerblitz - Balanced.
4. Wolf Packs - Balanced but Some Strategic Overlap with U-boat Interdiction in terms of being a sub-based Advantage. Should only make one of these two available.
5. Luftwaffe Dive-Bombers - Balanced but Some Strategic Overlap with U-boat Interdiction in terms of being an economy-damaging NA. Should only make one of these two available.
6. Fortress Europe - Overpowered. Artillery defending at 3 makes them way too good. Germany becomes very hard to attack.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are the 3 I would suggest for Competitive Play and the expected strategic implications:
1. U-Boat Interdiction (Modified) - During the Collect Income Phase of the UK and US turns, subtract 2IPC for any German SUB within 1 SZ of UK and Eastern US, and 1IPC for any SUB within 2 SZ of UK and US. This would promote an Atlantic Push strategy for Germany, and forces the Allies to clear these subs quickly.
2. Atlantic Wall - As is. For a conservative German player wanting to protect vs. Allied Amphibs. Protects the homeland while making the sustained push to Russia.
3. Panzerblitz - As is. For an agressive German player going Tank-heavy, and freeing up FTRs for other duties. Forces the allies to get units on the Eastern Front quickly.
