If you haven't read the Main Thread, I suggest reading that first:

This is basically an effort to produce 3 BALANCED National Advantages for each nation for Competitive Play. These should be neither overpowered or underpowered, should be useful strategically, and should have an equal chance of being picked (players select 1 per nation, Axis gets 1 extra for either Germany or Japan). These BALANCED NAs may be either original NAs, slightly modified NAs, or totally new NAs.

Each thread begins with a quick breakdown of current NAs. In responding, try and describe which THREE (rather than just one or two) you would pick and why. Feel free to include other people's ideas in your three choices. This thread is for American NAs. If you wish to discuss NAs in general, please reply to the Main Thread.

United States National Advantages

1. Island Bases - Balanced but Problematic. Similar to Kamikazes in extending range but requires several rule clarifications (eg. attacking land units, flying off sunk carriers, flying over recently taken over territories in NCM). This rule is a drastic change to base game mechanics, and is very difficult to interpret. It's best to stay away from this NA for Competitive Play.

2. Chinese Divisions - Balanced

3. Marines - Balanced

4. Mechanized Infantry - Extremely Overpowered. Having the US INF Fodder being able to move as fast as the ARM means US getting in the game much, much faster leaving less time for the Axis to get to Moscow.

5. Fast Carriers - Minimal strategic Use. Sure, the carriers are fast, but this doesn't help too much if everything else runs at the same speed a before.

6. Superfortresses - Extremely Overpowered. Paired with HB = Automatic Win.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are the 3 I would suggest for Competitive Play and the expected strategic implications:

1. Joint Strike (Modified) - As is but with the following parameters: Both UK and US must select it as their NA. Only Western Europe can be attacked. It cannot be used until at least Round 4. See UK thread for further details. This places some extra pressure on Germany's Western Front although at the expense of helping Russia.

2. Chinese Divisions - As is. The extra INF would really make a SINK Factory strategy more viable.

3. Marines - As is. For focusing on a Pacific Campaign and also as an alternative to Joint Strike.
