Open back units

Units like the American M7 105mm Priest with the Open Back disability can only be attacked this way if the enemy unit is in the same hex?

example: an enemy unit is 1 space away from the rear of the priest means they have to use their anti vehicle attack values?

Thx in advance for clearing this up for me.

The definition of Open Back has been changed slightly. Click to Q&A Forum, Important Clarifications, Definition of Open Back.

Neither the old nor new definitions, however, state anything about needing to be in the same hex.
