Each one has it's perks. I have no favorite.

I'm going to have to say the Base Set. It has the basic infantry and tanks for each of the major powers.

Set 2. It has two of my favorite tanks in the game: M24 Chaffee and SS-Panzer-IV Ausf F2.

Base set is the best...it has, after all, the most highly sought piece of the entire series....the T-34/76.

Furthermore, it provided the basic infantry needed. As we all know, you cannot win a war without good infantry on the ground.

Set one. Has the french Renault, my favorite unit

I had to choose the Base set for all the reasons put forth. I also like the Reserve set and think it should be a close second. Contested Skies I'm sure will be a very distant last.

I like all of the sets a lot except for contested skies. I chose base set because it has a lot of great units that I still use.

D-Day. I'm a sucker for Fireflies and Focke-Wulfs. They more than make up for the heroes.

Base set for my Favorit Turret Tank, the Panther.
If The StugIII long barrel version had been in set III, I would have vote for that one

You could buy the Base Set and be happy. Set II is a very close second.

D-day? That IMO was the crappiest set and the low point for AA minis.

The base set has my vote even though I was unlucky to get Mosin-nagant (I've only 1 from the first starter that had my only one renault (so I can't do a french swarm like Surfer Sam) ;) ... so none in 10 base set booster) and Arisaka (2 from booster, but as Japan doesn't seem to be very popular in the store where I bought most of my booster, so I could buy many of them seperatly)... 6 rares missing including Croc, Tiger I and Ha-Go.

But I should buy at least one reserve booster this week to get finally "taste" some units from that set. ;) This game isn't made for poor people like me, but this is a fun game to play nor to collect. Das ist Leben... C'est la vie!

I'm also surprised for the difference between Countested Skies and D-Day... the quality of the units from D-Day was not really good. By exemple, I don't have to worry about my Pumas' turret which it isn't the case for my Marders II or my Vet Tiger.

From a gameplay standpoint, Set II (the so-called Eastern Front expansion) generated the most excitement for me and my group. I remember gleefully purchasing a case-and-a-half of boosters and ripping into them in the parking lot of the store, then gazing in awe at the glorious IS-2 and T-70 platoon that I assembled for my Russian army. Set II prompted a lot of healthy trading and army building and really took the game to the next level.

In contrast, I got half a case of D-Day and no Reserves at all.

Base Set no one wonders why...

We should do a poll for the SECOND BEST set :D

That would be hard as each set has its merits, but I beliece I would go for CS as it had really nice SU and UK units - my favourite Allies. Also Elite Pz IV and Stug III

D-Day is third (Spitfire ;), Higgins Boat, Hawker, Brit Para, Canadians,... Vet Tiger, Wehrmacht Veteran)

Reserves is No. 4 IMO, but as its units are largely unplayed by me it can change)

I do not really like Set II as it has to much "undeeded" rare (my opinion)

I'm all for any set that does not include Kuomintang ... those things caused me emotional damage when I pulled them from from my Eastern Front boosters. It didn't help that I seemed to get an unfair amount of them. I'm still in therapy. Despite the K-Men, I really liked the introduction of both paras and snipers in set II, though Germany should have had some paras from the get-go IMHO.

If you look at the "set" symbols molded into the bottom of the actual units themselves, you'll see that the symbol for set I is the same symbol on the set II pieces. I think set one and two were meant to be "the base" set of pieces when taken together.

There are just not enough Russian pieces for me to call set I the best set. Take set one and two together, and you have a real good base of pieces for the five main players.

They all tend to blur at my age ;)

But any series with Brit Paras and the Typhoon gets my vote ;)
