To Larry Harris-

I played Axis and Allies Battle of the Bulge several times this weekend, as I finally had a chance to immerse myself in the game.

I could list all the reasons why I believe Battle of the Bulge is terrific, but I'd rather keep it short and list just a few. The new game blends some of the old Axis and Allies mechanics with new ones, making for an engrossing game in which a player must think ahead, assess the strength of each and every hex on every turn, predict how the hexes will change after movement/ reinforcements, and which gives the player flexibility to try different strategies each game. It's not always "attack Karelia." :)

The rules are fine, no need to spend (waste) hours trying to change them. They don't burden the game play; I didn't have to consult the rule book once all weekend. Yes, German aircraft get blown away by dogfights and anti-aircraft before they can sneeze on an Allied unit, but if the German player hasn't broken out by turn 5....

I played three games, using Germany each time. I won in a rout, lost in a rout-- and in the best-of-three tie breaker, lost with 23 victory points, my unsupplied armor on the border of one last major town!

Thanks again

-MDC

Larry,

Love the game. Good stuff. Played twice yesterday. Love the real bulge feel, the supplies, and the retreat rules, the movement rules, and just about everything else.

Not to keen on the combat strip stuff, maybe an old school AH chart would be better for people that can't seem to count, or have the manual dexterity to refrain from bumping the strips.

I love the way the game plays though, make a big pacific nut like me, want to go read some bulge history books.

Moderator Sinister Gives the game a big thumbs up!!!

Thanks and yes, do grab some books on the subject.

How about a game on the Battle of the Hurtgen Forest?? Now, THAT is a forgotten battle, unless you fought in the 28th Division.
