Why is Iceland colored as a UK territory on the map? Wasn't it occupied by the US during the war, or am I mis-remembering?

After the German occupation of Denmark, Iceland placed itself under British protection. After a while (presumably when the US joined the war), the USA took over this role.
Of course, the US might have taken over before as pasrt of their aggressive patrolling organisation... I'm not sure.

The British forces were supplemented (and later replaced) by Amrican forces in july 41 (the 7th, but not sure about that). So just after the launch of operation Barbarossa, American troops were stationed on Iceland.
But there were still British troops present after july 41. And they were there first, so I think that's the main reason why Iceland is British in the game. (Although the Bjork argument is pretty convincing too!)

The poor excuse for this blatant act of agression was the German invasion of Denmark.
In mid 1941, United States sent marines to replace British.

Actually, you're all wrong. Iceland is indeed colored for the US. Then why is it green?

Drax is right in that the British simply came came with a handful of ships and invaded and occupied Iceland. Although it was a clear violation of Iceland's neutrality the English got a pretty good reception in general, although neutral, the sympathy in Iceland clearly was with their fellow Scandinavian countries which had been invaded by the nazis the month before.
The US took over the occupation in the summer of 1941, before they entered the war NB. I think Iceland was included in that deal where US swopped 50 old WW1 destroyers to the UK for military bases around the world.
It should be stated that the UK and US occupation was generally problem-free if you exclude the American GIs crowding the Icelandic women creating conflicts with the local male population.

I like the Bjork reply myself, though you are right about the occupation, re-occupation already stated.
