Has anyone noticed that the reinforcement charts supplied with the game do not match the cards referenced in the rules? On page 4-5, it shows cards set up and ready to go and it shows 2 chips under most units (tank / inf) but the cards supplied only show 1 chip. You can also see this on page 9 at the top. As that card can be seen in the rules, the allies would have 12 armor available but as the card is supplied, they only have 8. Over the course of all reinforcement turns, that is.
This reduces the number of units in the game considerably and makes what units you have all the more valuable.
I was wondering if this was a change made fairly late during the pre-release quality playing of the game? Or a mis-print on the cards! :)

That is a very good catch.
Yep, it appears that every single unit that has one chip marker under it on the actual reinforcement chart actually has two chip markers under it in the picture in the rulebook. There is also a British soldier chip missing when comparing the chart to the rulebook.
I suspect that it was a late change, but it could be a printing mistake that was made on the reinforcement charts. If it is a mistake, correcting it would greatly help the Allies, since they are losing more units in this discrepancy than the Axis.
I also would like some clarification on this point.

I wasn't involved in the production or playtesting, so I can't give you a definite answer. However, I suspect that the number of chips was probably increased simply to make the picture look better. A single chip would probably get lost, but if you add one to the singles, you need to add them everyplace else to keep the proportions looking right. Just a theory.

I could understand that when taking pictures in the game to make the picture look more "presentable" perhaps. But, I thought it interesting that on the section talking about the reinforcement card, the picture of the reinforcement card does not match the one that came with the game.
I have not had a chance to add up the difference between the two. But it would be nice to hear Larry's thoughts on it.

It's always possible that the pictures in the Operations Manual are of a prototype version of the game rather than the final product. This is not unusual. In most cases, the components are produced simultaneously, rather than waiting for the game components to be finished before producing the rulebook. There can be some discrepancies, since last-minute changes may be made to the final game as a result of playtesting.

The rulebook has a few problems already, one more does not surprise me. I wouldn't give it much weight.

Well, I guess the point is, we need some official clarification from someone in the know.

the extra chips are compensation for the 2 missing US infantry your game does not have.

Yup. I had the same problem. Two missing US infantry. A little annoying, but no biggie. I've got A&A Revised and A&A Pacific.
