Hi,

First of all, this is my first A&A boardgame and I like it. Although the rules are not easy, it makes it more challenging and realistic to play. Second, I also appreciate this forum. It's helpfull to me to understand the basic and more specific rules.

I've a question about "If there are more than six defending units" item, explained at page 16 and 17 of the manual. If I understood the rules correct, first you count the 'hits' with the number of dice you have thrown (then you throw again only with the dice which presented a 'hit'). However, in the example on page 17 of the manual, I think the dice with number 7 is also a hit on the 'combat strips'. Do I overlook something?

Please, can anyone explain this to me? Thanks a lot!!

Your understanding is correct.

In the example you reference, the "rerolled 7" is in fact properly allocated to the artillery. The rulebook properly displays this allocation. With only a single hit, that artillery unit will retreat instead of die.

The confusion, I think, is that when you have more than 6 units being attacked, you need to reroll all of your dice that scored hits to allocate the hits among the active units.

We've gotten into the habit of doing it all the time, even for fewer than 6.

Thanks Trim Chris and Mr Yuk for your quick and positive comment!

Rereading my question, I might created a possible confusion (I should have described it more specific, I think). It's about the first roll as described in the first example on top of page 17 of the manual. The dice with number 7 in the first roll is excluded to roll it for the second time. In my opinion it's a hit, so it must be rerolled again and shouldn't be excluded to roll again. This gives a total of eight dices to reroll instead of seven, isn't it? Am I correct?

What are your opinions about the first example?

Welcome, Mars!

The example on page 17 is correct. The 7 is not rerolled because it is a miss. Only results of 6 or less are hits, regardless of the number of defending units.

Thank you Krieghund,

Now I fully understand the concept of this.

Actually, it is indeed explained earlier on page 15 of the manual: "Each die result of 6 or less counts as a hit". So if there are more than 6 defending units on the combat strips, you should use only these dice to reroll.

Thanks again - and for you contribution to the impressive FAQ - and I wish you all a happy New Year Eve!!
