I am new to this trading board but have been a member of ebay for many years with a 242 positive rating. My question is what is the proper etiquette for making offers for trades and what is the expected response time, if any? If an offer is not acceptable, is it proper to just ignore it or is it proper to counteroffer? Just wondering as I am a little dismayed at how this board has been working. Thanks.

The etiquette, like being politicly correct would be, in my humle opinion, to decline the offer via pm.

one problem is you only get 50 PMs in your box. It gets hard to keep up with a bunch of polite PMs and then have to clean out the box so often. Then you risk losing important PMs for trades still underway and totaly screwing up your records. So I personaly TRY to be polite but I don't send a ton of PMs if I can avoid it.

Why not just delete them as you read them?

Certain PMs contain important information {addresses, trade item details, etc.}. It's best to hold onto those. If a transaction inculdes a large number of units; I'll copy {& paste!} the details to another document.

As far as responding to PMs...I try and let other folks know when I'll get back to them. I'm on the boards during the workday. Other members are around late night, on weekends, whenever. It helps to let the person you're doing business with know when they are likely to reach you.

This marketplace runs on the honor system and common courtesy. Use both of these; and you'll be allright.

V-Disc is correct. You should try and send a return PM to the person who made you an offer. It is ok to ask for or give a counter offer. It is also ok to PM the person and let them know that you are not interested in their offer as well.

All-in-all a return PM would be nice but not always gonna happen.
