Ok, so if a truck is in an enemy ZOC it cannot immediately retreat to the off-map area. This means that it can only move around on the actual map right? So basically what this means for the allies is that with the constant german advance, a rotation of trucks is a good idea, since there will probably end up being a few trucks in the enemy ZOC, that is, trucks which cannot ferry new supplies or troops this turn.

Am I correct in my understanding of how trucks work?

There is an exception for trucks on a friendly edge of the board going off-map. Per the FAQ:

"An empty Truck that begins movement in a hex on a friendly edge of the board with a road going off the board in that hex (even if that hex is in an enemy zone of control) may move off-board, in which case you return it to your off-board area."

Other trucks starting in an enemy ZOC can move on the board, but only one hex along a road. Definitely not all over. Only being able to move one hex when starting in a ZOC is a rule that applies to all units, not just trucks.

The Allies have enough trucks though that I think it's good to put one in your big stacks as cannon fodder. You always want at least a couple available for the next turn supply. That you get a new once with every reinforcement helps.

you don't have to move those trucks off board however. In the north, it can be useful to have a truck sitting with the stack defending liege.

Any truck that goes offboard can get right back where it was unboard. Plus with extra stuff if you like.

So there is no downside. It took me awhile to realize this.

It can be useful for the Allies to leave a Truck on the board when they are "attacking in another direction" in order to potentially evacuate Supplies on the next turn from a hex that is about to be in a German ZoC. Of course, they risk losing the Truck in an attack. I certainly wouldn't do it unless I'm pretty sure the hex will hold for another turn, to avoid the possibility of the Truck's capture.

If you mean by "moving around" that it can move one hex along a road, then I suppose you're right......( because it'd be leaving an enemy ZOC, it can only move one hex)

It's very useful for loading up supplies and dropping them behind the frontline ( especially as long as there are no aircraft in play....)

A truck can move any number of spaces along roads. (Unless entering or leaving a enemy ZOC.) It can't move off road. Page 11 in rule book. :)

True, but I thought I would add what the manual said ;)
