Ok, so I know who Eisenhower is, but I don't know who anyone else is on the cover art of the box. (Obviously, I am not a BOB historian...):o The one guy with the decal on his helmet looks like Tom Hanks:D from saving Private Ryan.

The guy on the left side of the box is the former SS Obersturmbannführer Otto Skorzeny.
A specialist for commando operations.

There were rumours, that Skorzeny was planing an assassination on Eisenhower.

But this was never proven.

The box cover art for "D-Day" features a Lee Marvin {in "The Big Red One"} look-a-like. Is this supposed to be some kind of subliminal messaging on the part of WOTC?

I noticed that the cover art was also used in a banner ad.

I thought that I saw it was flipped for use in the ad. Then I went back and looked at the box.

I think that the cover art was actually flipped for the box. I say this based on the fact that the american soldiers on the box are firing their garands left-handed.

Most people are right handed and most (if not all) weapons take that into consideration when they are designed. The spent casings are eject to the right/right-rear. Which means directly into the face of a left-handed soldiers.

While they are more conscious now-a-days of the need to let left-handed soldiers fire whatever way is natural (the shooting eye is key), they didn't allow that back in WW2.

Or at least they didn't during training. Whatever happened in the field of battle was beyond their control. (Remember the left-handed sharpshooter in Saving Private Ryan? Bolt action rifle right in the face!)

THANKS! I didn't know that; was he the commander for the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge?

YES, Now I remember seeing that picture of "Lee Marvin" and I also saw a character on the A&A Europe that looks like Waye Rogers (MASH TV Show)

Also, on Fortress America, Sadam Husein (sp?) on the cover of it!

no Von Runstead was in charge ( it was called the Runstead offensive- much to the chagrin of this able commander who didnt believe in the plan). Of course Hitler was the real power who planned the operation. Runstead was a true 'yes' man in this. Von Model an ever commited obediant servant to Hitlers bidding also had some part in the plan. A few months after the failure of this operation Von Model killed himself in a forest. Runstead lasted till about the early 1970's along with Skorzeny (who led an exceptional life after the war... fathering many proto- fascist organizations and helping many ex- nazis to safety).

His like exploits read better than any Ian fleming story. He was the real deal. His audacity and bravery are first rate.

Skorzeny was in charge of the 150th made up of english speaking germans who were droped on the 16th dec.

Yep thats him. Avalon Hill knew someday we would have to fight him so they put him in the game.

Nothing to add on IL's descriptions.
This brings it to the point.

There is a very interestig book about Otto Skorzeny and his operations available.

Very exciting indeed.

I've read it in german but I think the english version isn't different.
