View Full Version : I don't get it.
I just bought the game and made an attempt to play it. I got good and stupid while playing (beer) and I'm pretty sure we weren't playing it right.
Is there a video tutorial anywhere about it?

Not that I know of, but I suggest you read the FAQ carefully. It should clear up a lot of things....
What exactly do you think you were playing wrong?
yeah i need to do that, i guees i figured i could pick it up and play it since i've played the old one a lot. i started reading it but fell asleep.... doh.
i think we were doning the fights wrong, the whole one attack thing? pick a place to attack, hit it with one round of dice, if you dont force a retreat or kill everything in one roll you gotta pull back?
and as i look back over the book now i realize that this game has almost nothing at all to do with the mechanics of the old one.

First off when you attack a hex you do not move your units into it unlike other A&A games. If your attacks destroy or force the retreat of all the units in the hex you will be able to move into the hex during movement.
Roll initiative, high roller picks a hex to attack from and picks a hex to hit. Then roll to see what will be randomly killed or forced to retreat. Then your opponent gets a chance to do the same. Keep alternating till every hex has attacked or you don't want to attack anymore. First round Germany is the only player who attacks.
Once attacking is done Germany gets first chance to move into empty hexes or move units back into hexes they might have retreated from. Germany then brings in reinforcements to empty hexes or hexes with other friendly units. Then the Allies go. Repeat.
Thanks you so much, that cleared up a lot. :D
I've been playing the old one so long I think I may be incorporating parts of it just out of habbit. I just gotta read the book again before I play. It does seem like a very cool game.
The way you allocate hits is odd.

Think of the die results as addresses. When you have more than 6 units in a hex you have to re-roll the dice that hit to get the addresses.
Check out this thread at A&A.org. I went thru it.

Don't forget this article:

I think it is a good explanation as well.

Thanks IL. Just hoping to create a little synergy between the sites. Good info to be found everywhere and all that.
Thanks again mang. I'll be playing again this weekend, now I just gotta explain it to whoever I'm playing with!
But yeah those links helped a lot. If I could I'd buy you a hooker.

Glad to help Paul. Thank You gift while a terrific idea is not necessary.
Ok these should be the last questions I have on the game.
1. You gotta have at least one supply token in a hex to even move out of it right? So do you have to leave supplies in the back row to move all the reinforcements? Or can you like put some of the supplies that you get each turn where they are coming in from and move them right then? And those "off board pieces", even if they get killed or captured they come back every turn? With the ones from the card?
2. Blitzing. Do you have to announce that tanks are blitzing out of the hex when you pay for the attack? If they're gonna blitz on the movement phase?
... I guess that's more than 2 questions. :o

To move or attack with a unit, you can use Supplies either in its hex or an adjacent hex. So, if there are no Supplies within one hex of a unit, it may not move or attack. Reinforcements move on the board for free, so you don't need to leave Supplies on the back hex row to get them on the board. Of course, you need Supplies wherever they end up to move and/or attack with them on the next turn.
And those "off board pieces", even if they get killed or captured they come back every turn? With the ones from the card?
The only pieces that are replenished every turn are Aircraft - everything else is gone for good once its destroyed.
2. Blitzing. Do you have to announce that tanks are blitzing out of the hex when you pay for the attack? If they're gonna blitz on the movement phase?
Blitzing only occurs during Movement and Reinforcement, not during Combat. You pay for it at the begining of the Movement phase when you pay for normal movement, or during the Reinforcement phase if reinforcement Tanks are blitzing.
Adjacent hexs too huh? Word.
Thank you sir.
