Can an airunit in the combat movement phase move its full movement (ex. Bomber moves 6 spaces) to attack enemy ships in a sea zone that has a friendly airbase (Island) therefore allowing the airunit to land after combat on the Island group within that sea zone? I assume the rules state a friendly airbase gives you a free move but can you make an attack in that sea zone with your final move and still land at the airbase after the attack? An answer would be great if anyone knows. Thanks

Yes - this is no different than a fighter moving 4 spaces to attack meeting up with a carrier moving into the attacked sea zone.

Thanks for the answer Rich. Here's another one: Can an aircraft carrier with two fighters on board attack during its combat phase along with the fighters in the same sea battle even if it means there is no chance that they will all survive. Almost like a suicide attack just to weaken the defender?

Hy!

Just adding another question to the topic. Can a "risky operation" for fighters involve conquering navy bases so that the neccessary AC moves 3 to the final pick up place? Have a look at the problem: I was thinking to attack in J1 the British Dd and Tr in SZ 29 (ignoring the sub)with the 2 Ftr from the Caroline Islands which takes 3 moves. To legalize this attack I want to conquer Papua with the Dd, Tr and 2 Inf from Palau/SZ 34, clear SZ 38 and conquer Hong Kong. If everything is going well the AC in SZ 45 can then move 3 spaces to SZ 28 and pick up the Ftr after their attack. I'm not sure if this can still be called a "risky operation".

The answer to both of your questions is "yes".

In general, all fighters must have a possible landing spot during NCM. The rules don't care about how unlikely your possible landing spot is, so long as it could occur (and you took some action in combat movement to try to make it occur).

Using recently-captured naval bases to NCM a carrier is perfectly acceptable - you'll often see that used from SZ 46 to SZ 54 around J4, for example ;)
