Ok, so, I was browsing the quickstart rules and what not for WAS. I noticed that in WAS, planes appear in a similiar fashion to the regular mini game (ie. an air phase to attack, get fired upon, retreat). I was kind of hoping that planes would have to take off from carriers/airfields and move a few sectors per turn so that the they are being controlled at all times. Any thoughts on this? Am I just being dumb and not thinking clearly? I think it would be cool to have total control over planes.

The quick start rulebook primarily cover surface combat; it's best not to judge how submarines or aircraft work from it.

What bothered me is how the airplanes are in packs of 3 like that on the stand. I kinda wanted the airplanes to actually be able to sit on the carrier while it moved. :(

To thge above poster. yes, I wish they were not all on one stand. It would have been nice, if they were seperate, even if they were smaller. Also, take look at the quickstart guide. It mentions the air phase and you can probably infer it will be really similar to the AAM base game. Read it again in there. It says, "In the air mission phase, players take turns placing aircraft in sectors with enemy units." That right there says it all in my opinion. They are not taking off from aircraft, nor flying over the waters. Just being placed, seemingly from nowhere.

Well, it obviously means that the mad scientists of the time have perfected teleportation & are using it on aircraft...

I want to see advanced rules before forming my final opinion on this, maybe test it too. IMHO aircraft work pretty well in AAM after all, although I hate how easily Zero's go down...

I also like multiple small planes on a single stand. I believe there must be something else to aircraft phase too, as it would make no sense that if you win initiative, your torpedo bombers can attack enemy ships unharrassed as you can shoot before enemy fighters.

But, what I'm concerned of - when looking at Enterprise, it looks like a plane -unit represents 20-30 planes. Enterprise has 3 units, so do escort carriers have only 1 plane? And ships that would have even less planes (Mogami for example) wouldn't have any... Or do carrier bonuses represent larger amount of planes, allowing escort carriers to have 2 planes?

And Germany, oh Germany... how do they protect their bombers & ships???

Not mad scientists....it's wizards....wizards who live on a coast...

hehe

I'm sure all will be explained.

At this scale, it might be pretty easy to convert stuff... Or just to wait for set II :)

germans did commonly having escorting fighters when their ships were close to the shore.
