Very similar to AAM and DDM. It will take 2 cases to get enough rares for trade bait.

Just be glad its not like SWM with it's Very Rare (VR) rarities. That typically requires a 3 case purchase.

With 24 rares, it will take at least 3 cases.

12 x 2 = 24

You're assuming one of each (or at least, sufficiently little duplication and sufficient players in you area that you can trade rare for rare). R-OWS- is taking the old pragmatic approach -- 3 cases (36 rares) would ensure either he gets all, or he can set up trades that are so unbalanced that he can't help but get all..

Yes I can see that, but considering that I stated originally 2 cases would be enough to get trade bait it seemed odd to receive a correction on what appears to be basic math.

If I were to use the same "old pragmatic approach" in the SWM world of very rares I might have to buy 6 to 9 cases to make sure I actually pulled every very rare.

But I understand that people collect differently. I used to collect the LOTR CCG that way since I did not actively play it and had no idea about trade or singles sites initially.

Now, typically I buy close to just enough and see how the local trades work out on release date. After a couple of days I just order singles.

To be honest? In terms of collectibility, 24 for 24 isn't good for trading purposes.. if I were in the trading side of things, I too would get 36 for 24. It's just "making sure", is all. It really depends on your area, how many players etc. etc. Personally, I'd just probably buy a case, maybe 2, and then eBay the rest of what I need.

The SWM VR thing, well, it's a tradeoff; in AANM's case, 12 more rares can potentially bring you sufficient returns (through secondary sales or trades to offset the cost of the case) to make it worth it.

A SWM VR, though, is simply not worth the $$$ in cases to get it.. better to let a third party to take the risk, then buy it from them.

24 for 24 usually works pretty good around here. I have the luxury of a large extended base of collectors and players in the NW Chicago Suburbs.

I agree with you on the SWM Very Rare thing, no way is it worth the money to keep chasing cases. Unless you have some pressing need to get 20 of each common. ;-)
