You know what I would be very excited in seeing? Whether or not WOTC will implement Kamikaze rules... If played by year then end 1944 would see Kamikazes being implemented for the Japanese side... of course by this time they had hardly any CVs left, but I think that, since WOTC has never really put forth any effort into implementing the Japanese kamikaze tactics (AAP's kamikazes were horrible!), it would be really interesting to see them used in WAS.

They did in axis and allies revised so its not like they will never do it. Maybe they will as a special nation rule.

Or as a special scenario rule. You would simply change the attack value of the plane. Possibly the defense value too, as Kamikazes were not deterred by flak.

Alternatively you could say that on a certain die roll, the kamikaze "hits", say on a 5 or 6. If it hits a destroyer class vessel, it's immediately destroyed. A cruiser class hit by one kamikaze is crippled (cannot use primary armament) and by two kamikaze is destroyed. Battleships would require 3 kamikaze hits to be destroyed, with the second kamikaze hit taking out it's secondary guns. Carriers would roll a die for each kamikaze hit with a 33% hit of being sunk. After the first hit, they would not be able to launch or recover planes.

Just a quick draft rule.

I dunno about instant kills on a five or six... Maybe just a whole bunch of dice when it gets in base with the unit, and then the planes screwed.;)

How about a 1944 Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka, or "Baka" (Japanese for "fool"--named by the Allies) ?

Armament: warhead containing 2,645 lbs of tri-nitroaminol
Speed: 534 mph, final dive speed: 621 mph

A one way, non-stop flight.

Most didn't reach their targets but a few did and "wrought fearful havoc" according to Gunston's The Illustrated Directory of Fighting Aircraft of World War II.

Instant kills only against destroyer class or smaller. My recollection is that a Fletcher class destroyer (one of the best of the destroyer class of the war) could not survive a direct kamikaze hit (they were only "tin cans" after all).

Are we going to get any late war axis units ?
The USN gets Iowa, a Fletcher DD & various other ships which benefited from late war technology {radar controlled guns, hedgehog ASW etc}
The germans latest ship is a type IX U-boat.
No type XVII or XXI U-boat
No Walter U-Boat
How about the luftwaffe remote-piloted bomb that sank the battleship Littorio after Italy surrendered.?. :(

Please, no esoteric one-time-only units.
