I read an article (Opening Salvo part 2 Uss Atlanta and the Tone) which gave some background material regarding action of the Japanese cruiser Tone in the Battle of the Java Sea 27th of February 1942.
The article stated that the British Cruiser HMS Exeter was the only survivor of the battle but the USS Houston(CA) and the HMAS Perth(CL) also survived the initial battle only to be sunk later a fate which also overcame the Exeter. The Houston and Perth were caught the next day trying to exit into the Indian Ocean via the Sunda strait between Sumatra and Java and Exeter was sunk within a few hours of the American and Australian cruisers.
HMS Exeter also took part in the Battle of the River Plate which led to the scuttling of the german pocket battleship Graf Spee.
I would like to say that I am looking forward to the availability of the Axis and Allies naval miniatures with a lot of interest.
