Hi all. Im slightly interested in WAS, nothing serious. Whats the word on this game? How does it look to you guys?
Does it look better then AAM? A lot better? After playing FoW for a while now I will never go back to that craptastic games. Words cannot describe how more enjoyable FoW is over AAM for me. Yet this is the War at Sea! Something FoW doesnt offer.

looks OK...will give it a chance...the advanced rules will make or break the game IMO...we are waiting to see them...
I agree, too soon to tell.
Ask again after the full rules are previewed...

AND we know all stats of all units - as balance is a major issue
AAM has a good ruleset, but the broken units and SA made it look worse than it is,

It's four weeks to launch and we know very little.
Because of photography issues, we can't even be sure of what the minis look like.

We know the launch date is March 16th.
We have the quick start rules which look pretty interesting in how they are handling separate phases for main gunnery, air and subs with damage being resolved by phase.
We know we will get the advanced rules on March 5th.
We have several stat cards from the Opening Salvos that seem to show some fairly interesting and historically flavored stats and special abilities.
We have a set list that tells us exactly which ships will be in the set.
Some of us have held actual promo figures in our hands and agreed that the stock photos do not do them justice.
But other than that, sure, we know very little.

I have already preordered a starter and a case of boosters to start off with. The reason I am interested in the game is because the rules look similiar to AAM so it will be easy to teach others how to play. Since I live in an area were there are very few players this is a major issue for me.

Oops, my apologies. Editing post to avoid confusion.

If I could, I would.
Monday's preview will at least give you a little more insight into the aircraft/carrier rules if that's any consolation.

If I may say this, though I like Der Leiter have to mind my Ps and Qs... The balance of the units in this game is actually far better than Axis and Allies Miniatures up to this date. As a scenario writer this aspect of WaS makes my work a heckuva lot easier. Some clear winners will likely emerge, but I don't see US dominance as a big issue here or the unplayability of smaller nations killing the tourny posibilities here.

So do you consider the Bismark at 53 points balenced against the Iowa at 68 points.?

I don't think WaS will interest you, to be honest. You obviously have the time to paint minis and you don't get bored over arguments about whether unit x is in range of unit y, and if it is, whether or not x can actually see y. If I were you I would buy some of the amazing Japanese 1/700 waterline kits and planes, make and paint them and then devise your own game based on FoW rules.
I prefer A&A minis to FoW, but I do like FoW. Good luck in all your battles!

Yes, I do have lots of time. Im playing Russian Infantry and have a lot to paint and am starting to learn Arabic while still keeping my grades amazing. :D
Ive yet to argue about anything in FoW. No problems at all. You know a nice ruler or measurer thing settles it all. I keep one at 16 inches clicked on at all times. The range of all me Red Riflemen.
Naval battles do interest me, enough to give this a shot. I cannot do your plan, which I do think is clever. (I already have an Arizona model, yet to put it together and all). I dont think I have the time or money to invest in a painting and modelling game.
Well, seeing I didnt miss any big previews or anything, I will be watching and taking everything in. I think the models look nice based on the funny little pictures. :) The stat cards look really cool, cooler then the AAM ones and everyting else Ive seen. I just hope this game is damn cheap and I can set up some Leyte Gulf battle fast.

Yes I do. A Bismark with 15 points of other units is a fair match for the Iowa.

I can attest to that as well, having recently played something similar in a game. Of course it wasn't just a 68 point game, and the support can make all the difference.
