View Full Version : Sniper Hero?

Would you like to see a Sniper Hero for any nation?

I'm all for it. The Soviets excelled with their snipers, and it is argued that snipers are the only reason that the Soviet Union won the battle of Stalingrad (now Volgograd).

Although I like your thinking, I dont think that a hero and a sniper should be combined. The're two seperate units, sniper and hero not a hero sniper.:D

I agree, keep them seperate. The snipers are already very good as is. I don't want a sniper thats a 5/5 or even 4/4 defense thats safe up to short range AND cannot be disrupted.

I do! That would be so totally ÜBER!!!!!!!!

I would get me, like, twenty of him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!\

Then I'd have an army of allied snipers! And maybe a tank! But just maybe!!!!!

And then I'd always lose!!!!!!!!!!! Hey, wait a minute!

Ye know...I was just gonna throw out here the question of defense...4/4?

No thanks on the sniper hero, though I imagine it would be expensive. Hard to see a sniper as heroic.

I like using snipers and certain heroes under certain conditions...just not crazy about seeing them together in one unit.

Interesting thought though.

Most of the Soviet Union's WWII War Heroes were either tankers or snipers.

Yes for a sniper hero, on the condition that it wouldn't use the "hero" SA. I mean, having such a unit be "spawned" from another would be silly... Also, a 5/5 sniper that would ignore disruption would be Uber AND boring.

YES for Polish and Finlish only

Your respect on these boards is impressive.

Yes, your initial statement is correct and would have been enough. My understanding of Russian history is lacking.

For my part though, stand-alone snipers are enough.

I agree. I voted yes, but I meant sth more along the lines of: this unit ignores superior camouflage on other units. This would've been a better alternative as far as I'm concerned than the Greyhound sniper hunter we got now......I don't want an actual HERO sniper.....

Yeah. That's more what I'm going for.

Not a HERO persay, but at least a hero among snipers. Like, maybe his hero abilities only target friendly snipers?

Wait a minute there is a hero that has 5/5 defense and can only be touched at close range: the Japanese one.

Make him def 4/4 and have 6/6/6 for AI and a nice SA, but not too overpowered, something on the lines of Headshot.

I voted no, but not really because of the sniper thing, nor [Lenin forbid!] dissing any Heroes of the Soviet Union, but rather because I think Heroes in A&A minis are actually a bad idea all round.

You can't buy heroes. So if heroes have a place in this game it ought IMO to be in the context of some sort of piece-development mechanism during a campaign. Even then, the American hero ought IMO to be errata'd right out of the game, because vampiric effects [you-lose-AND-i-win] tend to be very bad.

How about this for a Hero sniper

Kimblee_Clone

Boost the defence to 4/4, and allow him to ignore others' superior camouflage and I'm happy.

pwned means owned. It means that he has owned all of the doubters and they must bow to him. It is sounded as powned.

Thats what I get for being a smart teenager.

How about this:
Finnish Snow sniper Hero 1939- 12pts
Soldier Hero Sniper
ai 7/7/7
at 1/1/1
Finnish Hero
Crack Shot
Superior Camouflage
Headshot

The only logical Sniper Hero would have been a Soviet one I think.
As another poster said, smoe of the more famous famous soviet heroes were snipers. Another good point was that the japanese Honor-Bound Hero is very close to a sniper: a hero with Superior Camouflage. He doesn't have two other Sniper main ingredients: long range and crackshot.

The problem is that it is too late for that now anyway.
I don't think a nation should or would get more than one sniper and a single hero unit.
And Soviet Union already has one of each.
Case closed.

You guys know that you can add anyone to your ignore list that you want, and you don't even see their posts from that point on? Try it out, if there is anyone you don't want to read anymore. It's great! Even if someone writes something about you, you'll be in blissful ignorance. In certain cases, you may want to put 30 or 40 people on your list so you can just read all your own witty comments and not have to read responses.

I can think of quite a few true Russian heroes. Heros that if they had been American soldiers would have surely won the Medal of Honor.
The one I'm thinking of off the top of my head is Sgt. Pavlov. He was in the 13th guards division at Stalingrad and he was one of Four men who survived an assault on a multistory apartment building. He took command and he and a garrison of 25 (reinforced and supplied by a communication trench to Soviet lines) held the house for almost exactly 3 months while under constant enemy fire. He was awarded the hero of the Soviet Union for his actions.
He was not a fanatic who shot his own men or civilians or prisoners. He was a solider who was ordered to do a job and he did it. Just as all good soldiers from any nationality do.
You should be careful before you label an entire nation "savages" and "deplorable."

LOL!!! that was great. If I wanted to I could have complete conversations with myself without ever knowing what others have said. Woohoo, go crazy thoughts!

"and you, sir, are just as deplorable" Quote from Take pictures of your miniatures! #174. WOW from someone using the name LOL at all of you and then you go on to defend him in #178 and laugh at him in #222 and now you use the word DEPLORABLE. OH I wonder. You also have had a little of a confrontational side to you. Now I don't know for sure if you are indeed one in the same but I wonder.

What does that mean if I say deplorable and he said it too?
I saw it and added to my vocabulary this is how people learn, I'm not going to lie I dont like a lot of people and if i seem confrontational to you, I assure you i only am voicing my opinions(Which are just that not facts). If you have read my other posts about my family in the war, you can see why i might consider russians savages. I am also Defensive of pearl harbor, because it was a damn dirty sneak attack and Re-Enacting a massacre is not fun/funny. If i recall correctly 20-30 Japanese were killed compared to several thousand Americans including Civilians. We were not in a state of war they were completely wrong and it's wrong to dis-honor thier memory.

Eh, guys, lots of things get said on these boards which raise hackles. Let's take a breather, ok? I don't think he's LOL_at_All_of_You or Jesus, neither of whom rec'd quite the proportional gang-banging that I'm seeing here. And they definitely deserved it though most prudently just reported or ignored them.

I'm just saying peace out a bit. There's crap-throwing and discussion. The latter serves us all better.

Ok, I didn't mean it that way so I will start by saying I am sorry. I was making a bad observation that I wish I could take back. I see that when I said this everything suddenly disappeared. Yankee_Dynasty I am sorry. I just said I wonder and you cleared it up so Thank You. I am not trying to start anything here.

OK, here is a question that is not meant to anger anyone. Do you think the Russians where as savage in the war because of the circumstances of the type of war that was the Eastern front? Do you agree to play Operation Barbarossa as it was also a sneak attack of sorts or is this different? I understand your Patriotism as I am a true blue American and also of Finnish decent and have no get love of Russians but why do you get so angry about this issue? Just asking your opinion in hopes to understand better where you are coming from since it seems I have wronged you.

Last question why are you not a Rangers fan (being from N.Y.) as that is my team since I was a kid playing Hockey. BTW, the wife is a Sabres fan (or Sabres fan) and hates the picture you have up.

Snipers purposely hunted down MG teams too. Since we have one that hunts for officers, one that hunts artillery crews (? ) etc. one targetting MG teams ( French/ British sniper?) would be nice! One of the things snipers also hunted down a lot was ENEMY SNIPERS.....So, I'd say: Why not?!
