I know there is 64 mini's in WAS, and there are only an average of 45 in the sets 1-5. When i collected the first five sets it took me 2 cases to get a full set, so my question is just how many cases will it take to put a set together?

Completely depends on how they distribute rares in a case. I would say 3 if your lucky. If your luck holds up like mine you'll have to buy 4 or 5 cases. If you don't want to spend that much then the secondary market may be the place to go after you boughta case or two.

I think that 3 will be enough, but, maybie I'm wrong and it is a little more.

I'm thinking of getting two starters and then just buying the individual minis I want. I'm thinking more in FOW terms then "collect the whole set" terms. I think I'm just going to want to build the national fleet of my choice, or maybe two fleets, one Axis, one Allied.

Personally, I think because this is the base set, getting a full set of minis would be a good idea. Unless you are very sure of your area's preference -- i.e., your friends would only want to play with Kriegsmarine or with USN, etc. -- it might be good to build a spread of navies.
I think I might go with 2 booster cases and 1 starter set. The rest I can snipe off eBay.

I plan to buy two starters and two cases and then trade or buy singles to get the few rares I might be missing. That has worked for me with similar sized D&D sets.

With AAM I always got away with 1 case plus 3 boosters, which accounts for the 15 rares in each set. Anything else I needed I would get off of ebay or traded here. This time around it will be tougher with 24 rares, I will buy 2 cases of boosters plus 1 starter set and trade for the rest. But then I am interested as a collector so really I would like one of each, I am not really interested in fielding 4 MYOKO class cruisers, although I am sure that there are others who may be.

I think you can measure the amount of time players will abide by the 100 point build limit in minutes. The whole appeal of this game is going to be big fleet battles. Plus, I suspect that a duel between 2 ships, or two small squadrons, would be a rather quick game.

Also on the sixth page of the quick start rules AH mentions, and I quote; "When your ready to use the expanded rules and learn about fleet construction and how to play different scenerios, look at the rule book". So I think the 100 point game is primarily to teach us how to play and the real game will be in the flleet battles.

I'm ganna shoot for 1 starter and 1 case first off. I would like a whole collection and for the ships or planes I really like I want a few of them. This is as long as I like the regular rules for the game.

I've been trying to figure out what I'm going to do. I think I,m going to pre-order two starters and two boosters. The in April I'll order another two starters and two boosters. If I still need some ships after that I'll hit up e-bay and the singles venders.

I don't know. Judging from the units we've seen so far, it looks like you could get a large aircraft carrier with a full compliment of aircraft, a heavy cruiser, 2 light cruisers, and a mix of 3-4 destroyes or subs for 100 points.

Do you purposely want to get 4 complete map sets?

Yes, I'll probably mount two maps on heavy poster board so that will take care of four maps. The other four will be spares.

Once I see the advanced rules, I'll decide to place an order. If I order, I may go big with 2 starters and 1-2 cases.

I'm in the same boat. (Sorry, no pun intended.) Based on what I've seen to this point, I'm leaning very strongly toward buying into War at Sea. But I want to see the full rules and gallery before I decide for sure. At that point, I'll probably get at least 2 starters and 2 cases.

I like that idea. Of course I'm planning on the Japanese and US Pacific fleets.:D

Unless the battle of Midway fits in 100 points, I'll discard that limit before the game is released.;)

Now you guys went and did it. AH won't release all the ships for Midway until the 3rd or fourth set. That way they'll keep us coming back for more.

A booster and a starter for me for now, im trying to remember where i've hid all my money i might buy a case or two, the prospect of a massive fleet battle is appealing.

Six might be enough to get a full set. Judging by your Avatar, do you really think six will be enough for you? :D
