Hey, all. I've been debating about whether to pick up a starter of this when it comes out.

One question I have is this: it looks like the capital ships are almost 2 map spaces long. However, max range on a ship's guns appears to be 3 spaces. So 2 battleships dueling at max range will only be 1.5 ship lengths from one another.

Is that right? Because it will look like they're practically parked next to each other.

They brought this question up in anither thread. I can't remeber which one. The answer was the ship pictures were enlarged overlays and they are out of scale to the maps. i think they said a battleship will fit inside a grid.

Hmm. Thanks for the reply.

If a battleship is 6" long and will fit inside a grid, then how many grids long will the map be? If it is a 5' map, that would only be 10 grids.

We don't know yet. Lead designer Richard Baker has said that each map sector is about 5 inches. And the first Opening Salvo states that you can create maps up to 30" x 40".

If that's correct, it would seem that the battle map would contain approximately 48 sectors (6 x 8). You could have up to 24 units lined up along the top and bottom two rows at the start of a battle with 4 open rows between.

Hard to say for sure until we see an actual map. It may also be possible to use more than one starter to create even bigger maps.
