What are the British units that you'd most like to see in the next set of War at Sea? Since the Royal Navy fielded more than 20 classes of destroyers alone in WWII, this poll can't include everything. But hopefully these poll choices hit most of the big ones.
Select up to 3. If you don't see your favorite unit here, specify below.

Wow, this is a tough choice. Can I just say "Yes," and leave it at that? ;)

I know everyone building a British fleet will probably want most, if not all of these units — and more. But what do you want to throw down on your gaming table first?

Well, for this go-around, I went with the KGV, the Town light cruisers (although it was a toss-up between that at the County class), and the Tribal-class destroyers.
That should cover a lot of the North Sea/Mediterranean engagements.

If Set 2 doesn't include a King George V class battleship, I think WotC will have a mutiny on its hands. This is one of the units (along with Prinz Eugen) that everyone seems to want.

True. Without it, you can't do Bismarck/Hood, the hunt for the Bismarck, Prince of Wales/Repulse, Scharnhorst/Duke of York, or the hypothetical attack on convoy PQ 17 discussed in another thread. It's justy a handy dandy little RN unit! :)

What about HMS Hermes? The little obselete carrier is my favorite British ship from Victory in the Pacific.
A KGV is a must see for Set II. I would also like to see HMS Warspite and one of the old WW I light cruisers that the RN kept in service.
Also Warspite class battleship.
Flower class corvette

Looks like King George V is the clear favorite.

Not having a KGV is insanity since they participiated in so many important battles, it would seem like a no brainer to have had one in set 1. Likely done on purpose to make sure we buy some of set II. Can you tell they are already nervous about the games life? lol

Also Warspite class battleship.
Flower class corvette
A Queen Elizabeth class battleship is an absolute must for War at Sea — there just aren't enough poll options available to include everything.
Malaya served in the Mediterranean escorting convoys and operating against the Italian fleet. Barham fought at Cape Matapan. Valiant took part in the destruction of the French fleet at Mers-el-Kebir and served in the far east until late in the war (along with her sister ship Queen Elizabeth.)
Warspite saw action throughout the war — taking part in the Battle of Narvik, Cape Matapan, the Salerno campaign and the Normandy landings.
The Flower class corvette is another must. It didn't make it into this poll because my guess is that it will be a Canadian unit.

I agree with previous comments that these are all good choices. I took the HMS King George V and the County class CAs along with the Short Sunderland. I just like that airplane and I don't have a solid reason why...
The RN must be thoroughly represented ! ( HERE, HERE !....ah the back benchers are awake now.) I would like to see their alotment of spots be increase from Set I to Set II say from 9 spots to 10 or 12.

I'd love to see the Short Sunderland for Set 2. Along with the Catalina, it was vital to RAF Coastal Command anti-submarine patrols. The Sunderland would also be a very versatile unit in War at Sea — since it served with squadrons of the Royal Australian Air Force, Royal Canadian Air Force, French Navy, and Royal New Zealand Air Force.

MarcusAurelius do you think the RN will get more spots in Set II ? Or the same as Set I? You know totals for the various fleets will be adjusted in Set II. I take that as a given. Its pure speculation right now, but I think WOTC might like to know who we want more of right?

There's something interesting in the cover of the rulebook, too... :D I know everyone's not interested in bombers, but I'd say they'd be really cool!!!

Here were my predictions for unit distribution in Set 1:
Australia 2 (1 R, 1 U, 0 C)
Canada 1 (0, 0, 1)
France 5 (2, 2, 1)
UK 11 (4, 3, 4)
US 19 (6, 4, 9)
Germany 7 (3, 2, 2)
Italy 4 (2, 1, 1)
Japan 15 (6, 3, 6)
And here's the actual set list breakdown:
Australia 2 (1 R, 1 U, 0 C)
Canada 0 (0, 0, 0)
France 3 (1, 1, 1)
UK 9 (4, 1, 4)
US 19 (7, 5, 7)
Germany 9 (3, 3, 3)
Italy 6 (2, 1, 3)
Japan 16 (6, 4, 6)
Italy was definitely underrepresented in my speculative list. Other than that, I think it's a pretty fair distribution. Give Italy a couple of France's units and we're good.
Looking at the final set list, though, you get the distinct impression that Germany's navy was equal to the UK — which couldn't be further from the truth. My guess is that the reason is related to game balance; since this is the starter set, WotC wanted to have roughly the same number of Axis and Allied units. (It's 31 to 33.)

So here's my speculative unit distribution for Set 2:
Canada 2 (0, 0, 2)
France 2 (1, 1, 0)
Netherlands 2 (0, 1, 1)
UK 10 (4, 2, 4)
US 18 (8, 4, 6)
Germany 6 (1, 2, 3)
Italy 7 (2, 2, 3)
Japan 17 (8, 4, 5)
My picks for Canada would be a Flower class corvette and a trawler, frigate or minesweeper. A DD's another possibility. Eventually I think Canada will get an uncommon CVE and CL — just not in this set.
France adds a CA (possibly another battleship) and an uncommon CL or patrol bomber. For the Dutch, it's a CL (Java, De Ruyter or Tromp class) and a DD (probably Admiralen class).
The Royal Navy gets another CV, 2 BB (KGV, Revenge or QE class, possibly a Renown class BC) and a CA for rares, a CL and the Short Sunderland for uncommons, and a DD, torpedo bomber (Barracuda or Beaufort), dive bomber (Skua or Roc) and fighter (Seafire).
The U.S. adds a little of everything: 2-3 CVs, BBs and CAs for rares, maybe a CVL, CL, auxiliary ship (transport or tanker) and a patrol bomber for uncommons, plus a DD, DE, torpedo bomber (TBF Avenger), dive bomber (SB2C Helldiver) and fighter (F6F Hellcat) and throw in a sub or sub chaser. One rare slot could go to the UK instead.
Germany fills out the ranks with the Prinz Eugen, a CL or auxiliary cruiser (like the Orion) and the Ju 290 patrol bomber, plus a Type VIIC U-boat, a Ju 88 long-range fighter/escort and a torpedo bomber (Heinkel He 115).
Italy gets another BB (probably Conte di Cavour class) and CA (Zara class), CL, CANT Z.506 Airone patrol bomber, DD, torpedo bomber (SM.79/SM.84) and a fighter (C.202 or C.200).
Eight rares for Japan sounds a bit heavy (maybe one goes to Italy or the UK), but let's see what happens: 3 CVs or CVLs, 3 BBs (one could be an Ise class carrier battleship) and 2 CAs. For uncommons, a CVE, CL, auxiliary ship and patrol bomber (H6K or H8K). Then a common fighter (N1K-J), dive bomber (D4Y), torpedo bomber (B6N), DD and a DE or torpedo boat.
