What are the U.S. units that you'd most like to see in the next set of War at Sea? Obviously, this poll can't include every option. But hopefully these choices hit most of the big ones.

Select up to 3. If you don't see your favorite unit here, specify below.

F6F would add to the US air power nicely.

I want the Lexington before the Essex class, for the earlier war scenarios in the pacific. I'm confident we'll get both though.

This is the US Navy, I want to see all of those ships and planes.

Well, that goes without saying. I'd like to see every single class of escort carrier commissioned by the USN eventually represented in WaS — Sangamon, Bogue, Casablanca and Commencement Bay. Every destroyer class, too, while we're at it.

But the main point behind this poll (like a poll really has to have a point; they're fun!) is to find out what everyone on the boards is interested in seeing first.

I'd like to see some of the pre-war destroyers, too, for those early war battles (Java Sea, Guadalcanal, etc.).

I think we're going to have to proxy a lot of destroyers for many scenarios, especially early in the war.

The Battle of the Java Sea included destroyers from the British E & J classes, the Dutch Admiralen class and the U.S. Clemson class. They faced off against Japanese destroyers from the Fubuki, Shiratsuyu, Asashio and Kagero classes. The situation got even more complicated with later, larger battles.

i picked Baltimore class heavy cruiser.

Isn't the Baltimore in the first set? I would like to see the USS Houston or the USS San Francisco. Those two heavy cruisers fought in two of the fiercest naval battles in history.

Oh, and can't forget USS Texas and USCGS Modoc. We need both of them for hunting the Bismarck.

My votes were CV Lexington (Saratoga served the whole war, even got nuked at Bikini), SoDak and New Orleans, both of which were mainstays throughout the war, particularly in Guadalcanal. Colorado would basically be useful for shore bombard and Pearl harbor scenarios, and the other units are only useable in mid war or later.

Nobody seems to be clamoring for the ships of "Battleship row" at Pearl Harbor.

Pennsylvania was the Pacific Fleet flagship at the outbreak of WWII. I doubt we will see a Arizona or Oklahoma.

I chose South Dakota and would have picked South Dakota and Lexington if able because I feel strongly that the early ships should be released first. The last thing I want to see is more rare cruisers and uncommon merchant ships!

We'll have plenty of destroyers since you'll likely get one in every box.

I must also point out that it is very unlikely that we'll ever see a Dutch ship or many of the lesser known classes of warship since there are soooo many other ships that are not even released in set 1. The Japanese had 10 aircraft carriers when the war began and getting 3 in set 1 is a nice surprise.

The US had at least 10-12 battleships when war began and we get.....The Iowa King Tiger class BB that wasn't even built yet! Colorado, New Mexico, South Dakota, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, Mississippi, Nevada, New York, Alabama, California, New Mexico, Utah, Indiana, etc etc etc not to mention Oklahoma or Arizona!

Odds are very, very good we will never see all of those.

Of course. And I would lilke to see the British and Dutch ships, too. But this is a poll about U.S. ships. ;)

I'd like to see the Grumman XF5F Skyrocket or the F7F Tigercat.
Heck, I'll take a Montana class battleship while you're at it.

A US Pacific fleet is my main interest in the game, so I'd like to see all of these, of course (despite my filial loyalty to the USMC, I think the USN is probably overall the finest military branch assembled in modern warfare).

I picked the Avenger, the Lex and the Essex.

I still don't understand why the Lady Lex isn't in the first set? Is it because she didn't sirvive past may of 42 and the Enterprise did. Well I'll tell you guys right now " No Lex No Play" she is the Queen of the American flattops in my book and always will be.

I voted Lexington, South Dakota, and New Orleans classes. I'm surprised there was no DD choice to make. What's up with that? I'm not complaining directly Marcus cause with the USN there is alot to choose from. But I think we can surmise that in Set II they will get the lion's share of the spots. Sooo...

Perhaps you can do a poll for US DD's.:D

Is a John C. Butler class DE going to be in Set I? I vote for the Samuel B. Roberts.

According to Samuel Elliot Morison in "The History of United States Naval Operations in World War II" the USS Samuel B. Roberts is a Butler class DE !

Upon reading your sig line Commissar God rest Mr Somerville's soul. He has spent enough time in Hell.

I just noticed that the Sammy B is going to be in Set I... at least if the thread about 'previewed stats', etc. is right. In fact, that list has it as a common, which I think is great. Yes, I do have Taffy 3 on my mind. :)

Thanks for your kind words about my grandfather. He taught me just about everything I know, and probably a few things I don't know yet. I'm humbled to have been the recipient of his love and care. I trust that his soul is with God; his earthly remains are shoulder to shoulder with his comrades in Arlington. What amazes me is that, unique as he was, there have surely been thousands of such men, each with their own stories (largely untold, as his were, because he didn't like to talk about it) who quietly did the impossible on their country's behalf with no promise of personal gain but with a guarantee of personal loss.

Alaska class battlecruiser

Essex class carrier

Gearing class destroyer

While the F6F Hellcat would be nice to have ... it dominated the Zero
with a 13 to 1 kill ratio ... and could end up a real game breaker.

Alaska class BC's (of which there were two) were only in action in the last months of the war. Gearing class was also very late war.

Alaska's are definitely a reserves type ship. There are about 40 different ships that could be released before an Alaska is even considered.

What scares me is that it might be released at all or even considered when in fact there are dozens of ships that actually fought in WW II. Alaska's didn't even get their paint wet.
