View Full Version : requests for preview-7...
Can we please, please, please...
Not have any more cruisers or battleships previewed.
We already know that Battleships are designed to beat cruisers in a rock/scissors relationship. 8 of the 12 units previews to date prove that point thouroughly. Preview-6 (Graf Spee & Exeter) will presumably reinforce that proof. Part of the point of previews is to show that the game is balenced (a subject of some concern after AAM) More previews of cruisers which are designed to loose against battleships is not a convincing demonstration of game balence.
how about some destroyers next...

or a torpedo or dive bomber to go with a previewed carrier so we can evaluate their strength.

I would go for a destroyer and a sub to show the under-sea level war. We could then infer destroyer/cruiser/battleship matchups from the destroyers stats at the same time.

Basically, I'd like a preview of just about anything that we haven't seen to date.
So far, we have stats for 12 of the 64 units in the first War at Sea set: 2 fighters, 6 cruisers, 2 carriers and 2 battleships. Next week will presumably add two more cruisers to that list. That's more than enough cruisers, thank you.
Another way to break it down is by country: 5 American units previewed, 4 Japanese, 2 Australian and 1 German.
Nothing yet on (take a deep breath) battlecruisers, destroyers, destroyer escorts, submarines, torpedo boats, sub chasers, cargo ships, transports, patrol bombers, torpedo bombers or dive bombers. There haven't been any units previewed for the UK, Italy or France, either.
How about Le Terrible and the Fairey Swordfish — the torpedo bombers that attacked the French fleet at Mers-el-Kebir? Or U-510 and its nemesis: the PBY Catalina? Or the Italian motor torpedo boat and the Ju 87B Stuka dive bomber?

Carriers are the queen of battle, and they've let us see the carriers, but not their strike planes. That's definitely an "half a loaf" situation.
I've got the perfect two units for Preview 7: A *** or U.S. dive bomber, and a german sub. That allows a good assessment of carrier strike power, plus gives you a preview of 70% of the German fleet. ;)

Well another thing they could do is give us a "preview" of the composition of the booster cases. For instance ...."The USN gets at least 4 rares in every case along with 3 uncommons and 9 commons." I'd like to know that information besides another ship preview to be quite frank and honest about it.

Well the problem with that is they're random. It makes it difficult to say that detailed of information. Since they're seeded, what we will probably find is that the distribution is similar to AAMs, where you can be reasonably certain of getting a certain number of each common and uncommon (+/- 1) per case, and what % chance there is of getting doubles.

I realize that its random, I would just like to be reassured that the US will have the most number of ships in each case of boosters. Since this is my first experience with "collectable miniature game" I am somewhat apprehensive about it. I am use to going to a con or to my LGS and getting what I want. I will be extremely P.O. if I open that case next week and find I have more French ships than US. WOTC will then lose a customer right off the bat.
But it just seems to me that since the US has more of the spots than anyone else the US should have more ships in each case. Isn't that a reasonable expectation?

Randomness causes many reasonable expectations to be blasted out of the water, pun intended. If you don't like randomness, then buy your units individually.

Yes, it is. The odds are in your favor.

"Reasonable", yes. But 100% certain, no.
However the french with only 3 ships in the set will not outnumber the US. But don't be surprised if some cases (possibly the one you buy) has more Japanese ships than US.

Thunderjp I will probably have to buy some ships to get the number of duplicates I want to represent other ships in that particular ship class for a certain scernario I want to do. Oh "pun" accepted.
XAos & Joisey If I get more ships of a certain navy as opposed to the US that won't upset me in the case of the IJN. I'm looking for "reasonable expectations" not certainty. It was just bothering me that because of randomness my nightmare of getting more French ships then US could happen.
I just don't have any previous experience gaming this way, so I'm wondering what to expect (?)!
Just a thought, if A/H think that players are complaining that US ships are under-costed, out of prejudice against US units.
They could try a "blind-preview", i.e; publish the stats for the US-Fletcher DD and another DD. Without saying which is the Fletcher. Then see which one we say is undercosted...:D

I would like to see tzhe stats of a liberty ship or the Japanese Maru dingy.
In the advanced booklet most classes are covered by an example or two...

I'd like to see the German U-boat now. Also, in light of the Graf Spee preview, I think alot of people want to see the AA capabilities of the Karl Whatshisface Z destroyer.

Well they did say that preview 7 would be a French ship. If they add a second to the preview I hope its one from the Italian navy. The Italians have been slighted up to now !
A nice preview would be the French DD and the Italian MTB !
